Colangelo: Players have individual agendas

Quote:
"I've got a lot of suspicions, I guess, of what's gone wrong. It hasn't been the same since the all-star break," Colangelo said. "Too many guys came back from the break with a different approach. And that's the part that's troubling. ... It's not a talent issue. And it's clear that the right message is being delivered (by the coaching staff). But the students have to carry out the agenda. And it's got to be a team agenda. It can't be an individual agenda."

Quote:
"It's a hard thing to explain. (Wednesday) night, it felt like there was no effort. It felt like there was no sense of urgency. It felt like there was no emotion," Colangelo said. "It's almost like there's a shutoff valve. And it's hard to explain, but it's almost like the entire team had that valve in the off position.

"But we've proven we can turn it on as easily as we've turned it off. It's just got to happen fast."

He's passing the responsibility. Translation:

I got the right players and I got the right coaches to make them play the right way to win. We tell them how to win and they don't do it.

PLEASE.

Honestly, I don't care if you fuck up as GM. I don't care! I was ok with your moves in the offseason BC. I thought you did a good job and had a good team put together. Turns out you didn't! That's ok! We all make mistakes.

If you don't think it is a mistake then, as captain, you deserve to go down with the ship pal. I can't support you as GM if you won't acknowledge that things are not going to work like this.

I was surprised that he would say that he has "suspicions" about his players.

I'm not.

He's clearly giving a not-so-subtle kick in the ass to the entire team.

Too bad that the guys who are REALLY stinking it up are all but untradeable.

but it's hard to say that the players or the team in general isn't good enough. The thing is we were one of the hottest teams in the league for like 2 months. That couldn't have been a fluke. Not for that time span. If it was two weeks than yeah, you could question how legit they were, but fuck - it was for 2 months.

who did we play?
How many were on back to back night for the opposision?
How many games against teams missing key players or having key players just returning?
How many games against sub 500 teams?
How many games were at home?

It wasnt a fluke, team should have won the number of games they did with the odds in there favor. Every team hits a soft part of there schedule, that was ours.

Lucky the bulls have had injury problems or the Raps would be sitting in ninth right now.

And in regard to BC, I think he is totally right. Biggest culprit is Bosh. Judging by body language, post and pre game interviews he is always passing the blame. He is playing for a contract, and expects his shots on offense to allow for his 20 and 10

You are a wise man Snooch... Bosh needs to stop looking to justify a max contract... he will get it either way, but maybe he wants to ensure it comes from some other team?

Bosh is a great player, but if I was Bargnani or Turkoglu I would have been pissed about how this team refuses to share the ball... No longer is it a dynamic offence, and to hear Tiano justify Bosh's jumpshots by criticizing rebounding effort is ridiculous.

Concerning individual agendas, some of them make sense, some don't. It's obvious that this team struggles most on defense.

1. Bosh needs to have his numbers in his contract year, so he's going to demand the ball. That's a personal agenda. But at least he is rebounding, sometimes by himself and usually playing at a high level.

2. Bargnani already got his money and he gets his fair share of touches. What does he gain by not rebounding and defending? He doesn't do it because he's soft, as he has always been. He didn't start a new agenda this year.

3. Both Jack and Calderon gain nothing from poor 2 way play. It's probably the best way to give the other guy the starting job (among other things)

4. DD has always said he was trying to be a good defender and I can't say his play has been any worse than before in that regard.

5. Wright usually defends.

6. Amir Jonson hardly takes any shots anymore. He just focuses on energy, rebounds and defense.

7. That really leaves one person to call out. Drum roll........

BALL! It's the old, "If I'm not getting the ball and not getting shots and the public is on my case, why should I come down the floor and bust my ass defending and rebounding?" I think Turk is pulling that same thing SHAQ did when he was in a ball time power struggle. He's doing that passive-aggressive thing. He's not a dumb player, and he's not weak. So why does he stand around and watch other guys rebound and defend? Because he can't have his way on the other end of the floor.

Stats don't lie: Cb4 have already checked out.
Give a look to the split and everybody can easily see that CB4 have changed attitude:
Fewer drives to the rim = less FTA
Steals/ game dropped by 0,5 to .....0,1
Less defensive rebound

A jumper happy stat padder trying to avoid contact / injury.

Sad to say

There's some similarity in the past. When he has come off injury, he has always started slow and built up. According to Triano, only a few days ago, the ankle is not even right, but he can't damage it anymore. Just give me one other player on this team playing at Bosh's 90% level (or whatever) and we could be looking at home court 1st round.

Collangelo has always made pleasing moves.

Raptor fans are tired of American players leaving for no good reason, he gets international players. Raptor fans want dirty, they get Reggie Evans. They want clutch, they get Turkoglu. They want Bargnani to get rebounds, he makes it public that he's flying Moses Malone in for a few hours in the summer. Alvin Williams has a cult-like following, he hires him as an assistant coach. Raptor fans start getting tired of European players not playing defense, he drafts a kid from Compton and picks up guys like Jack and Wright.
The team is on a 5 game skid, you'll definitely hear something in the paper about Collangelo "meeting" with the team.

The man has his hand on the pulse of the fanbase, as he should.

Personally I would rather have a GM who is slightly overweight and hard to look at, so he hides away pulling strings from the shadows. He lets his coaches coach. Acknowledge his mistakes. Etc. etc.

Ie) Wayne Embry, the greatest GM in Raptors History.

The fact is Bargs is a pacifist. He doesn't demand the ball very often. He usually just waits by the three point line for someone to pass it to him. He's a terrible off-the-ball player. And don't even get me started on Turk.

That isn't fair to Bargnani. When Bosh is in the game, the system in place does not exactly facilitate off-ball movement. No one cuts and no one moves without the ball, god forbid we trespass into Bosh's iso-space. When Bosh is out of the game however, there is a lot of off-ball movement and cutting. It's no coincidence. I will agree that Bargnani could demand the ball more, but the team must also play a role in recognizing and feeding the hot hand.
