I have a feeling that the main cost was Valanciunas.

That wouldn't have even been entertained. They may have asked, as I expect all would, but no way does Colangelo even think about that. JV is our future. They love this kid. Rightly so too.

Looking at who they acquired from Iguodala trade, it is almost guaranteed that they have asked for Valanciunas. While ago, I remember there was a rumour about 76ers wanting #8 pick AND Valanciunas. Looking at Valanciunas, it was a damn right move for Colangelo to protect Valanciunas.

they bought into the american hype, though both of those players wouldn't have been mistakes as much as JV was the right, high potential pick.

That's something people ignore. BC is a very good drafter...

before anyone disputes it with something lame about bargnani.. babcock anyone?

Bargnani was a gamble, sure, but there are really only three players from that draft that I'd rather have:

1. Aldridge
2. Gay
3. Rondo.

Rondo is a non-starter because, for whatever reason, pretty much everyone passed on him. Aldridge was perceived as a Bosh clone (and we still had Bosh), and Gay... well... now he appears to be a better all-around player than Bargs, but back then it wasn't so clear, to say the least.

We simply got "lucky" in one of the weakest draft years in recent memory.

True although Kemba looks really good right now.

Good enough to make enough of a difference here, without JV? Even Lowry isn't doing that.

I'm thinking it was something like Derozan, Ross, and Calderon (to allow the salaries to match).

that'd be terrible cause both derozan and ross will be as good as iggy, if not better. and as much as manuel sucks, he's a decent point guard to have on the bench. better than J. Lucas the III anyhow

A second rounder... but yeah, four instead of three.... not really an indictment... though I suppose Kyle Lowry might be included too..... at least BC didn't miss with Tyrus, Ammo or Sheldon Williams.

Not saying I'd prefer having Walker

Yeah and that's why BC made the right move and didn't do the trade. I wouldn't want Alan Anderson starting. I bet the most BC offered was something like demar, calderon, and Davis.

If I had to pick again today, I'd still take valanciunas over kemba.

insert eyeroll. I was referring to the fact that he said that he'd "there are really only three players from that draft that I'd rather have" - Gay, LA, and Rondo. I wasn't referring to draft position.

So 5 then. But yes, nobody, if any, could've foreseen Millsap, Lowry or even Rondo's game. Rudy was never in the running for the top 3 at/during the draft. So, LA was the only clearcut mistake. But, yes, it could've been disastrous if it was someon Ammo.

Kleiza to Denver. G.Carl would know how to play him and give him a good chance, please!

Colangelo was smart for passing up on Iggy. He'd just leave at season's end when he's a free agent anyway, resulting in the loss of whomever was traded for him for nothing.
