Colangelo looking to acquire a SF?

Hmmm .... in Doug Smith's blog today he mentions that a little birdy told him (hopefully not the same one that said Jose was going to be an All-Star) that with the lack of afffordable bigs out there, that he might be looking to acquire some much needed rebounding help via the SF position.

Joseph C, Toronto

A: I think if he finds a tough, strong veteran small forward, heíd start for sure, after getting use to the teamís defensive systems and new teammates. But if itís a four or a five, heís not going to replace Bosh or Bargnani in the starting lineup.

Donít discount the idea of finding a three, either; Someone Who Knows thinks thatís where Colangeloís looking right now because thereís a dearth of available bigs with affordable contracts.

Whatever happends - happends. ;)

Look, Doug has no clue as to what BC's trade intentions are. Never had, never will.

True, Moon should work harder on the glass, but to think that a trade for SF will solve our rebounding problems is fallacy beyond belief, seeing as how both Moon and Delfino are good rebounders already for their positions. Unless BC acquires AK-47 or Josh Smith, such trade won't help the team.

Belsius 02-03-2008 08:20 PM

I agree mike, we will just have to wait till bargs can rebound decently. I dont think we need to trade thinking we have a lot versatility in the SF and SG position. Even though Moon is 27, he is still a rookie and he is learning. He is a good rebounder and not a bad shooter, he just needs to stop taking stupid shots. Delfino brings a little of everything and is only 26, he will improve even more. Dont see any reason to make a trade in that position. We just have to pray Bargs becomes a good rebounder soon.

Again, to me it's not about some magic man coming in and saving the day it's about effort. All five guys on the floor have to have the desire to box out or go after the ball instead of standing around and watching.

What happened to all of Moon's emphatic rebounding he exibited his first month in the starting line-up?

My theory is that this team's finess rubbes off even on hustle players with little offensive talent per se. Exhibit 1: Hump. Exhibit 2: Moon.

I'm with most of you...bringing in someone isn't going to help unless that person replaces Bargnani..he's the only one weak in his position for rebounding...perhaps Moon on the offensive boards a bit but really our wings and even guards are decent rebounders. Bosh should be more like 11 pg and Bargnani needs to improve. Bringing in a rebounder won't do much because the primary rotation will likely remain. Hump is the prime example...per 48mins he's like what about 16 rbg??? But he doesn't get the big minutes because you need the best talent on the floor.

Here's another article from Doug regarding the talk yesterday that BC's looking at a SF. He's looking for one with some experience, grit and toughness. I just don't see how dangling Dixon is going to get us what he's looking for. :(

Someone Who Knows hinted the other night that it’s not necessarily a big that Colangelo is after. If he can find a three with experience and grit and a bit of toughness, that’s what he’s going to get.

Nothing’s imminent but the Ford return may make things more interesting in the next little while.

Looking at the teams out there, there's only a few guys that come to mind: Ruben Patterson, Corey Maggette, Ricky Davis, Quentin Richardson, even Ron Artest...

Sick, Wicked and Nasty! 02-04-2008 11:52 AM

Cory Magette I would love to have...he was my choice in the offseason... mostly for his ability to get to the basket...something we still desparately need out of that position.

Dr. J. Naismith 02-04-2008 11:53 AM

I like Maggette's game, but he's waaaaay too injury prone. He's destine to never be able to play injury free basketball. :(

Acie 02-04-2008 11:56 AM

Maggette's a cementhead.

No thanks. :)

MangoKidHoops 02-04-2008 11:59 AM

Problem with Artest is that while he's a good player, you need him to be level headed - that and he's having a good season, so who knows what Petrie would want for him - it would take more than Dixon's expiring contract. Kapono, Dixon and a future 1st would be ideal. I think Artest would love Toronto. It's like New York only cleaner.

Meh ... obviously you don't know much Hoops because didn't you know that NBA players hate coming to Canada to play let alone be apart of a Canadian team? Shame on you for being so ignorant. ;)

MangoKidHoops 02-04-2008 12:02 PM

Ah jeez, I can't believe I forgot about this dude - Walter Hermann from Detroit. The guy gets NO playing time for the Pistons. He's big and tough - he fits the mould - and another Spanish speaking player!

Sick, Wicked and Nasty! 02-04-2008 12:05 PM

Hermann would get minutes here..hes' a Sam type of player. I'd like to see that.. not sure whose minutes he'd get..probably Hump.

Dr. J. Naismith 02-04-2008 12:07 PM

Yeah, they started a "Get Hermann" bandwagon at the RealGM. (sorry SWAN) It would seem as though most Raptor fans like the thought of Walter in a Raptors uniform too. :)

Acie 02-04-2008 12:21 PM

That's it waive Martin and sign Patterson. He can play the 3 or the 4, doesn't need shots to be effective and who cares if he tried to diddle the nanny, so did Doug Gilmour and this city loved him.

Fixed :p

I'll have you know I picked up Mo for my fantasy team. :o
