Here's the interview, pretty interesting imo. He hinted Bosh might not be worth max money and seemed pretty happy with the youth movement.

I would have expected him to say we wanted to keep Bosh but we now need to move on. I was pretty surprised that he brought up the fact that there was question if he was worth it.

It's called creating an air of affirmation. It's what the ad men all do in their presentations. Sell sell sell is what the man does. You didn't hear him repeat that he had offered Bosh the max, as he had said before.

Here's what I parse out of his BS and flexibility blahblahblah. The board was willing to spend tax dollars if Bosh accepted a max deal. Now there is great news because even though they are going to "surprise a few people" at best - meaning not entirely sucking - they don't have to spend that money to try to actually contend for something. Thanks Bryan. The only solution:evolve baby evolve.

He keeps mentioning being a free agency player in a couple of years. That free agent class doesn't look very promising though outside of Melo and Paul... and I really think getting either of those cats is a pipedream. There are other notable players but most of them will be washed up at that point. I could be missing some though.. It's hard to find a list that takes into account the likelihood of guys opting out in 2012/not opting out in 2011 etc.

The only thing important about those two years is kicking the can down the road another two years. Then he can allow the story, and the excuses, to evolve. I'm sure he'll be very happy if there is a lot of cap flexibility for another two years.

Well, better late than never. Interestingly enough, Bosh would be "worth" max money here, but certainly won't be in Miami.

You forgot Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph for your 2011 list. A number of people around here don't think we stand a chance at getting Marc, but I think it might be possible, assuming the Raps overpay a little bit. If they can't get Marc, they should try to go after Horford. I'd say go after Noah, too, but I think Chicago will match almost anything. Chicago is probably in a better financial situation than Memphis and Atlanta.

If Derozan continues to develop this season, the Raps get a fairly high lotto pick next draft (preferably to use on a PG), and the Raps create enough cap space to successfully obtain a high quality front court player to pair with Bargs, then they would be on a path to challenge for a high conference seed in 2012.

Yup. Many of the younger FAs will be restricted. Horford, Noah, and Marc Gasol will be restricted. I'm not 100% about Marc Gasol, though, since some sites have him listed as a restricted FA, but others do not.

It does make things harder.

on HoopsHype it says Gasol is free in 2011, but I thought he was on his rookie contract
Horford has a qualifying offer and so does Noah

the wild card is , how much does Sonny get?

Those are the only ones that stand out to me, and all of those aren't likely to happen.

So Horford, Butler, Crawford, Noah, Perkins, Batum, A. Randolph don't do a thing for you?

Yeah I can see it now... we suck this year, 2011-2012 is a lockout, then we get left in the cold during 2012 FA signings. BC overpays some second or third tier players and claims that every effort has been made to become a contender.

Jeff thanks for the list, I haven't been able to find a nice one slimmed down like that.. but yes, most of the good FA's there are restricted. What I can see is that barring a complete home run on a scale never before seen in Raptors history, there won't be anyone available worth waiting 2 years for.

Look at the Knicks this summer, they actually got lucky getting one max free agent, and to me it was still a massive disappointment. They could have been totally screwed in other iterations of the free agency bonanza (Amare to Miami and Bosh to Chicago for example). I think to say that it was worth years of bottom feeding just to sign Amare would be completely disingenuous.

Carrying this 'flexibility' forward to 2012 frankly will be a total failure unless we end up signing a Paul, Melo, Noah (RFA), Lopez (RFA) etc. A great deal of those players will be extended by then, and the odds of grabbing any of the big fish is very slim, unless BC knows something we don't. If he is planning to use the flexibility to pull a coup in some trade then fine, but if the plan is indeed to just wait until 2012 then I'm not on board.

Isn't Butler 30-31? And same for Crawford. I forgot Noah, but I'd pass on Perkins, Batum and Randolph.
