Colangelo on the Fan 590: 23 Million to spend this summer..

Brian Colangelo was just on the Fan 590 with Jack and went into scenario's for this summer. And basically he said that if he can sign Marion this summer that he could go over the cap with the Bird exemption and then can spend all the way up to the tax threshold. He said that he could have around 23 million dollars to spend minus Marion's contract. And he stated that he planned on signing Marion wether to keep him or trade him (working with Marion on where he would go, if he didn't stay). If he isn't able to sign/or sign & trade Marion he basically will give up the Bird exemption and only have around 10-11Million dollars under the cap. Here's to hoping he can sign him one way or another! Seemed complicated?

Naw I understand. So if he doesn't play good and we sign him to trade him away we can have 23 mil. That is sick

Minus the contract we take back. So lets say we sign Marion for 10Mil and trade him for 10Mil contract player, we'd have around 13Million left under the tax threshold (+MLE according to BC). He said "i don't think many people realise the flexibility we could have this summer).

Yeah, but who the heck is going to want to do a sign and trade for Marion at a significant chunk of change if he doesn't pan out here?

I think Marion might work out nice here.

If not, to resign him for 9 or so million would make him a very viable option for alot of teams looking for energy and defense. He can play multiple positions and guard multiple positions, there's always a market for players like that,

Isnt that exactly what teams wanting to have free cap for 2010 want?

I mean, they want to do the exact same thing we are doing but for 201o isnt it?

Are you kidding? It always kills me when people always think that we can never get anything for anybody.A 4 time All-Star that is the best rebounding SF in the league 8 years running. Hmmmmmm, who would ever want that?? LOL

acie's point is if he's npt good enough to stay here at a big salary, why would anyone want to trade for him at that high salary?

All it is gonna mean is Marion/traded for players for 10-12 million.
AP for 4
Delfino for 4
Joey for 3

then MLE on a bigman.

jeff do you know how to read?

If he doesn't pan out here (meaning if he plays poorly), what team is going to sign a 31-32 year old on the downside of his career to a big lucrative contract? And then we expect something of signifigance back in return? Not likely.

30 yrs old. But 27 games on a team nobody really pays attention to aren't, going to matter to the teams that were trying to aquire him in the last month or so.

All the money in the World won't save Raps if Jose's hammy acts up, Bosh's knees fail him and Marion stats sulking...

... there, the optimist in me has spoken.

This time it is though, at least for this era. Considering Bosh's decision looms this summer it is certainly the most important summer in a long time. No more stumbles can be made, or Bosh is as good as gone. If he isn't already!

He'll be 31 in May, but whatever.

You're crazy to not think how he plays here will not have an impact on his free agency.

Don't you think those teams were more interested in acquiring his expring contract and renting a player than thinking longterm with him involved?

Sure, you have a point with his expiring contract. But i also think that there will be takers for him this summer for a 10Mil+ contract no matter what, based on what he can do to help a team. I'd rather have him stay here though!
