Default Colangelo discussion

RaptorBlog Radio: The Colangelo Debate | RaptorBlog | Blogs | theScore.com

Quote:
People likely wonít want to hear this, but at worst I would think the Raptors are going to pick-up the option on his contract. It would be a massive mistake in my opinion to give him another extension at this point. Does Colangelo deserve to be back? Most would say no based on his record alone and they wouldnít be wrong in saying that.
Quote:
Ask yourself what general manager of any kind of substance would walk into this mess if the Raptors fired Colangelo? It is safe to say any top candidate you would consider, would steer clear of the Raptors based on the lack of ability to get out from under all these contracts. So that leaves you with Colangelo, or if you let him walk, likely nothing more than hiring someone unproven and desperate, or someone within the organization.
Dino Nation Blog: Raptors' Future Will Be Mediocrity or Spending Money

Quote:
Now that the Toronto Raptors have fallen out of playoff contention, a wholesale discussion about the entire franchise is occurring. The job security of coach Dwane Casey has come into contention. Is he the coach to lead the Raptors next season in their drive for the playoffs? That question will only be answered when a more important question is answered: what to do with general manager Brian Colangelo?
Colangelo should be judged on wins and losses. There havenít been too many wins in the past few seasons. Colangelo can also be judged on his decision with his coaching staff. Casey hasnít been an NBA level coach the entire season. My thoughts on his abilities have been well discussed in previous columns. The final decision on Colangelo will be based on his roster moves. Two moves will define the history and fate of Colangelo with the Raptors: the acquiring of Rudy Gay and the inability to trade Andrea Bargnani.

I think this is the first time the Raptors have missed the playoffs 5 straight seasons, that screams "change". Doesn't have to be a complete overhaul of the leadership, just simple adjustments. I like something like his

Interim President: Wayne Embery
GM: promote Ed Stefanski, give him a year to see what he can do
Assistant GM: Promote/move Alvin Williams to this position.
Coach: Give Casey one more year, without the presence or influence of Bryan present.

If this fails or doesn't improve or steer the franchise in the right direction, then dismantle the rgime completely.

Why tinker?
Btdt on the Embry thing, I think Stefansky and all the Basketball brass are stiffs need to get the axe, Alvin Williams ... really?
if the intent is to change direction and focus, raise the bar and get professional, knowledgeable NBA executives in the seats.
Your approach just wastes another year of my life. I gave up on the Maple Leaf approach in 1994.
Plow the shit under and start over.

The 3rd season was the start of a complete rebuild which hopefully gives everyone at least some perspective.

using a blog post as a basis of fact would be troublesome. using one as a basis for a discussion is certainly not. it is opinion, and you seem to frame plenty of discussions around your own. why not someone else's?

so tired of these colangelo and Bargnani discussions, at least Bargnani is kind of settled now ... I almost want us to get rid of him just to end it, even though in 1-2 months the fire gm x thread will start popping up after every loss ...

I'm really concerned about all this talk of a rudy extension though, it better not be a bad one. If I was MLSE, I would be very cautious with any kind of contracts extending beyond 2015. I don't have much hope for the upcoming two seasons, but if they fuck-up the next rebuilding cycle, I may just stop following the team - don't think I have the patience of seeing another 4-5 seasons of 30-35 wins.

BC is on the fan right now. 590AM

"Andra elbow injury a "freak" accident. Happened to the same elbow, same ligament, yet is in a diffrent spot and not the same injury"

Adrea being traded "were going to still treat him as one of our own...were not just going to throw him out"

"May people think were no where and I disagree, were .500 since getting rudy....were moving in the right direction"

Bob M- has this team lost too many 4th quarter leads....is there something to that?
Brian " I have all the stats and numbers and it has been an unusual amount of 4thq losses, but its a young team, injuries, and transition once rudy got here, and you have to be clicking, it doesn't happen over night" " with some adjustments and growth together were gonna be ok"
