Raptors Colangelo discusses trying to trade Bosh

Quote:
“Even if there was an open market similar to what’s gone on with [Carmelo Anthony] last year and Chris Paul this year and Dwight Howard, [Chris Bosh is] not that caliber of player. It’s that simple. I never had an opportunity to move him for the kind of haul that some of these other deals are producing”

Bryan Colangelo to Gary Washburn, The Boston Globe
Quote:
In a way we always knew. Watching Bosh only drag his team to the post-season in only two of his seven seasons in Toronto, you knew. Watching him struggle to make his teammates better, you knew. You saw the Olympic gold medals and All-Star appearances and you convinced yourself otherwise, but deep down, you knew: Chris Bosh is a second-class star. Unfortunately for Toronto, the rest of the league knew that, too, and that prevented them from capitalizing on his free agency.

That’s not to denigrate Bosh or the achievements he made in Toronto. He came to work every game, he threw his slender frame wherever his coach wanted him to throw it, and he worked every summer to improve his skill-set and bring something new to the table each subsequent season. At his best he may never have equalled Vince Carter in his prime, but over the course of seven years he gave everything he had to the organization, it’s just that what he had wasn’t enough to put him in the class of players that net their team’s huge crops of young assets and picks when he’s traded out of town.

That quote from Colangelo said even more than that, though. In order for him to know the limitations of Bosh’s trade market, he had to be scouring the league looking for a trade. He had to have been out there beating the bushes, seeing if anything transformative shook loose. Had he been faced with a package of assets similar to what Denver or New Orleans got, he’d have pounced on it. Like he said, he never had the opportunity for a haul like they got, because you have to imagine that if he had the opportunity, he’d have taken it.

The only thing our front office is good for is running a fake PR machine. RedWhite & ugly ass camo jerseys.

he was ready to hand Bosh a max deal had he wanted it.. enough said, not sure where this comes from but it's lame honestly, had he traded Bosh at the deadline or the offseason before we would've netted more than we did in the S&T, plain and simple.

There's no need to over-analyze Brysn's little quip. The fact is that Bosh was pursued heavily as a free agent. And there were reports of teams interested, written up by real reporters, and they included the likes of San Antonio and the Lakers. It is my understanding that the problem with trading Bosh came from the board. To suggest that he couldn't be traded is patently ridiculous. Time to move on already.

I think BC's comments are bullshit ... He was trying to get Bosh to sign a max deal. In the end I believe we are better off, but he didn't try to,pursue trades until it was too late.

You saw teams now reacting much sooner given what occurred with free agents a year ago.
Utah and New Orleans didn't wait .. We could of gotten more for Bosh if BC didn't wait so long. Bosh playing all sides made it difficult. At least Chris Paul was clear that he wanted out .. Go to respect that.

we din"t, don't and will not know all.

the thing is i remerber i the summer when Bosh goes to miami, i had read an article about the trade deadline.
BC did try to send Bosh to cleveland, but cleveland wasn't interest.

so i really think BC try, but maybe he wanted to much in return. and that was the bigest FA market, so maybe many prefer try to get player in the summer.

like we say, with maybe or if we can put Paris in a bottle !

p.s. Bosh should have been traded as far back as 2006/2007. Many times where we could have sold high..

Paul and Anthony came out and said they didn't want to stay on their teams letting the GMs know what to do...Bosh was being a little bitch trying to get attention by pretending to not know what he wanted..

well, considering you keep waiting for him to fall, it's hardly surprising. Dude is 26... is it that far-fetched to think he's not still improving? Look at baseball, happens all the time. Fuck, look at Z-BO.... You wait and wait on Anthony Randolph too but Bargnani only gets your wrath. Just some perspective.

Bosh was 24 in 06-07 and you think he had maxed out (or are you not agreeing with high). By 26-27 you know what you have in a player most of the time. Bargnani is a very good scorer who has trouble rebounding consistently and will probably never be consistent defensively long term. He is what he is. Gets my wrath? Hahhh

I've said he's been playing great. I also said that it was too early after six games to think he was all of a sudden going to be an all-star. I don't see anything wrong with being realistic after 6yrs of seeing him. I also pointed out that most here were not big Bargnani fans to say the least a month ago. People got caught up in a six game stretch where he looked amazing, which he absolutely did, especially with his effort.

Remember a couple years ago when JO was traded and Bargnani looked amazing and people thought he had turned the corner. What happened after that? How was he last season? I've seen him look great for stretches too many times, only to fall back into bad habits. And because of that i'm trying not to all of a sudden think this time is any different. Sue me!

As for Z-bo, he was a double double player before last year, but his attitude in the past lost him some respect. All of a sudden his team takes off and people now point to him. Whatever.
