The Coach's thoughts

Quote:
4. TORONTO Raptors (17 games left: 8 games they have to get): Wanna finish strong this season? Then you have to get these eight games (at NJ, Minnesota, Philly and Detroit -- versus Golden State, New York, LA Clippers and Chicago). The other nine games are very tough, they have to find a way to steal a few of those, but the story of how this season will finish out will be; can they win the games that they should be capable of winning? It's easier said than done. Don't know what to figure on anymore with this team. When you don't defend consistently you become a hard team to read.

5. Raptors FOUR GAME WEST COAST TRIP: No fun to watch! What a tailspin right now. Nobody saw the collapse we've seen since the All-Star Game coming. They got exposed as a team that isn't playing like a group right now. Poor defense, shaky shot selection, negligent with the ball and a team that acts like they're good and yet doesn't play that way. You earn wins, teams don't roll over for you because you're supposed to be good. It's time for Jay Triano to rock their world and do whatever it takes to get their attention to turn this around. Is it too late? No, but it's getting closer to that scary breaking point if it doesn't begin to turn soon.

I love Jack. I love how he throws guys like Jose and Triano under the bus without actually doing so explicitly. He called for Banks to be put into the rotation the other night, and he looks like he is expanding on that sort of notion here.

Triano should have had some red lights go off with that first game back after the AS game. He had the players to change things up, but went out of his way to keep everything as is, even when Bosh's injury offered the perfect chance to tinker. The first two games with Rasho in there worked matchup-wise, but after that it was just a wasted opportunity.

Triano shits his pants worrying that he might have to choose one guy over another.

I hate that Marcus Banks didn't get more time guarding Andre Miller last night when it was clear that Jose and Jack simply couldn't handle Miller's big ass in the post. Even with that said Miller's exploitation of Jose last night was laughable relative to JJ, I wish I knew why Triano left him in for so long in the third.

Have you noticed that the only quarter they've won last night was that third?!

As for guarding Miller - he is taller and heavier than either of our PGs and he pretty much backs them under the basket just like most PFs do with Bosh in the same scenario. Unless NBA decides to call offensive fouls on "driving defender with the butt" "plays", the only way around this is a second defender or an attempt to block a layup at the last moment by, again, another defender. Banks would have been useless there.

How do you figure? Banks is much stronger than either Jose or Jack, maybe the both of them combined. I have no doubt that he would have been able to hold his ground against Miller's caboose.

And as for last night's third quarter, yes we did win it. Portland actually started the quarter out on a 10-0 run (or something along those lines) and took both LMA and Brandon Roy out if I remember correctly. Either way Portland's best lineup was NOT on the floor. That may or may not have had something to do with us winning that quarter.

Below are the measurements from ESPN.COM and NBA.COM seems to concur:

Marcus Banks 6-2 205
Jose Calderon 6-3 210
Jarrett Jack 6-3 197

Andre Miller 6-2 200

I have no idea why, but Miller just looks so much taller AND bigger than either of our guys.

There is no way on earth Banks is 6'2 and there's no way Jose and Jack are the same height.

I bet D12 can't back down banks......

But all kidding aside, Banks is a better option on defense guarding any point guard over Jack or Jose.
