I gave Sam a "C". Considering we battled through numerous bouts of various injuries and what he had to work with personnel wise I think he did a decent job. His managing of certain players/situations (i.e. Ford/Jose, Andrea, etc.) was questionable at times, but overall Sam didn't do anything to impress me greatly, but at the same time didn't really disappoint me either.

Next season will make or break Mitchell's future here in Toronto, so let's see what he can do with hopefully a new and improved revamped roster.

D. and it would have been an F if he didn't call that wicked out of bounds play to TJ in Atlanta.

i gave him a B...just because i knew all of you would have given him a c or d....put aside i still think smitch is a decent coach...Raptors will keep him untill we have a solid team that is both an offesnive and defensive threath...this team is trying to rebuild so there is no use firing him now....as soon as our team bcomes stable unfortunatly i will feel that he will no longer be part of toronto...

I would have gave him a D minus up until the playoffs, but then starting Bargnani at SF for the first time all year, then seeing it blow up and doing it again in game 2 puts him over the top as being the worst coach in the NBA.

We still show no resemblance of a halfcourt defence after his 4th(?) year, and we basically only run 2 plays on offence and this year the side to side ball movement died for whatever reason and we became even more predictable with more talent.

Sam sucks.

i actually have a story about Sam.
it has nothing to do with his coaching skills, but more to do with his attitude.
i used to think he was a down to earth, good guy... but he's an asshole, plain and simple.
i usually rooot for the "good guys", the guys who you know if you met outside would have the decency to actually talk to you, or shake your hand.
sam is not that guy; he's actually a dick.

my buddy lives in his building....
he spots sam in the elevator going to his suite....

my friend:
"sam mitchell! wow, its an honor to meet you! congrats on winning coach of the year, and congrats on such an amazing year for the raps! i'm a huge fan, keep up the good work!"
*extends his arm for a handshake.

sam:
*looks at my friends hand, turns away...
"do i know you?"

my friend:
"um, no... i'm just a fan, i live in the building.. i just thought i'd say hello and congratulate you.."
*extends arm again for a handshake

Sam:
*looks at another person in the elevator
"you dont know her either... why didnt you say anything to her?"

my friend:
*turns to the lady
"hi, I'm Brian, I live on the 23rd floor, nice to meet you?"

lady:
"hi, I'm Mary... blah, blah, blah"
*shakes my friend's hand.

Sam:
*turns to the lady
"hi Mary, I'm Sam mitchell, nice to meet you.."
*shakes her hand
*turns away and doesnt acknowledge my friend... gets off the elevator.

if that is the biggest dickhead on the planet... i dont know what to say.
who does that?
he's an asshole...
i no longer respect the man...
i always thought he was a cool cat, thought he was a friendly dude... he is not.

sure this has nothing to do with his coaching skills, but i still dislike him... he's an asshole. i dont respect guys like that.

lol.. i know...
whats funnier is that my friend works for "the score"... he refuses to do any work raptor related...
he used to be the biggest raps fan and now he hates them... it makes things fun when we go out to the bar to watch the games... he goes crazy!

I gave him a C+. But I miss seeing him being "a dick" on a daily basis. I think he learned a lot this season, and had a season that was just plain tough to be a coach. My grade has to go on the results which were wanting, but I'm hoping there is more to come. If the results come next year, then this grade means little.

He was dead to me after the way he handled that Ford situation. You don't reward the player acting like a selfish bitch with 10+ straight 4th quarter starts and then the starting role, after losing game after game. That's just fucking stupid. No wonder our chemistry was screwed up after the West Coast trip. Sam has never heard of 2 Ds, Defence and Discipline.

Bargnani thing was icing on the cake.

D. This was a grade attritubted to the entire coaching staff itself. There were too many inconsistencies still in the game plan. We improved defensively but offensively there were still too many question marks. We still don't run anything outside a basic pick and roll offence. Also, the mis managing of the Jose/TJ Ford debacle really hurt him and visibily caused a riff on the court.

I'm not too sure what you're getting at.

What are 4th quarter starts? 99.9% of the time on any team the back-up PG starts the 4th quarter.

Also, the starting role being given back to TJ was a unanmious desicion by himself, BC and Jose.

I'll ask you this, who was on the floor for the second consecutive year in the dying minutes of the game with the season on the line?

Sam's never heard of defense or discipline? That's all he's about!

I have no problem with people ctriticizing him, but at least be rational about it.

Pretty much what everyone else said. Funny how coaches react the year after winning Coach of the Year. Its almost as if they get cocky and confident after winning it.

It's not just the starting (maybe that was wrong wording before) of the 4th quarters, it was playing the first 5-6 minutes of each one and having no leash whenever the Me-J stuff took over... for every game until he became a starter. As soon as the first incident happened, he should've been pulled off and yelled at. The game where no-one else touched it for 6 minutes... how can you justify not taking him off after the first 2 minutes? It's because he was afraid of the reaction Ford's ego would create in the locker-room. You have to discipline selfish play, or else he'll just do it again until he gets want he wants (the starter's role), which he did. It's just basketball ethics... sit the selfish players.

Had we won any games with Bosh injured on the West Coast swing I would have made it a B.
