Question Coach Casey & his rotations..

I've been hearing the topic of Caseys rotations being brought up around here this season. So far I have tried to maintain a neutral position on this, but after tonight its becoming painfully obvious they are costing us games.

Why did Coach Casey bring in Aaron Gray to start the 3rd overtime tonight?

He had Jonas Valanciunas and Ed Davis available to him to start the 3rd overtime but he chose Aaron Gray. Both JV and Ed were playing well in the limited minutes they received.

Why Gray?

Gray is tooooooo slow to guard anyone other than other really slow bigs..and even then he can't switch on time.

Also he is not shittt on offence unless he has like 5 seconds to gather...you know cuz he's slow

Because he hates Ed and thinks Val isn't ready despite starting him. Another point, he can't draw up a clutch play if his life depends on it.

I still like Casey. He made a mistake but really the game shouldn't have went into OT. The Raps played poor defense from the start and Valanciunas was on the court for parts of that when Gray was still in his jump suit.

My concern is this,so much was made up about Terrence Ross being the right pick at #8 and so much was being made about JV coming over this season but they can't get any burn. Rookie or not, situatuions like today is how you gain confidence and experience, when playing at crucial moments. Its not like Toronto is a veteran, playoff expected team(by experts/analyst standards).Ross should be getting more than 3 minutes in a game where the team logs of 60 minutes of action. If not,use him as a trade chip before his value depreciates even more.

Lack of experience, Gray is a better defensive player than Valanciunas.

I respect that you have your own opinion, but this seems like the general answer to me,which I don't believe is true. If it were, then Gray should be starting over Valanciunas and more specifically,he would've been in the game sooner and had an impact. JV is a smart player, has enough size/length to guard Jefferson at that point in the game when Al's fatigued and Jonas well rested.

Overall, I like Casey as a coach and imagine him being the core of this Raptors team for the years to come, but yeah, he did some mistakes in my opinion in the game against the Jazz:
*He could have started Kleiza in the third, after such an amazing half, even tho Kleiza had enough chance in the same third and fourth, the shooters as they get hot, they can quickly cold.
* Val was sat out since his fourth foul. That's ok, but he didn't played a minute after. So basically if he would have kept playing Val till his 6th foul, I think we would have had a better chance on winning.
* 3rd OT. Start Gray wasn't the best option.

gray in 3rd OT was nice try. jazz made most of their points late in the game from the paint and gray is the best defender in the paint. but he got unlucky yesterday, some minutes earlier in the game could of helped too.
JV HAD TO play more minutes! In third and obviously in fourth quarters. Seriously, it looked like he was playing his best game last night before he was benched
Casey makes both good and both tragic decisions, that's why it's hard to have a strong opinion about him.

i heard phil jackson is looking for a coaching gig....could be a way to attract players. because like mike brown his team was 1-4. casey's team is not a 1-6 team.

The only way Phil Jackson would consider coming here is if he was given Colangelo's job. He wanted veto power on personnel decisions in LA.

He may be, but his lack of size hurts him. He's not big enough. He lost weight when he needed to bulk up and I haven't seen anyting to suggest he's any stronger. I wish Ed had come back bigger, stronger like Amir did a couple years ago. Amir has really made that transition that Ed needs to. At this point, Gray's sheer size poses issues for other teams that Ed is just unable to. It's obvious why Amir is getting so much run after it seemed like they were at a same point in their development only a season and a half ago. Ed has work to do off the court in order to earn more PT.
