Money Weems Interview:

1) How is the offseason:

- Enjoying the weather (?) things are going really well.

2) What about this offseason as you prep for next year and taking the next step in your career:

- Big step for me, have a chance to start at my position.
- I've been working out twice a day sometimes 3 trying to work on my all around game
- Want to be in a position to help team get to playoffs

3) Anything in particular you are focusing on?

- My main objective is to extend my range, beyond mid-range, most important thing
- The 2nd thing is being more of a playmaker for the other guys on the team. You saw snippets last year, I want to be a more complete player.

4) How was last year? It must have been difficult at times? It seems like the team wasn't as tight as it needed to be at times.

- Even at times we showed a little bit of each other having great chemistry
- 9 new faces together, everyone has their own game, hard for everyone to coordinate or play as a team...Even to be around each other that much
- You don't know what other guys like if you don't know them off the court
- It can cause problems especially near the end of the game, when you don't know guys and hadn't met them until that year.

5) Can this be worked on? or can it only come with time with teammates with a core to build chemistry?

- It is somethign that you have to work on, the lockerroom has to be like a family reunion...You don't have to see each other every day but you should go out for dinner and hang out together

- myself, demar, jack, amir and davis we want to hang out more because we have to be together in toronto and in other cities

6) Could be a lot of changes this year (jose almost left, Chandler etc.) what then?
- It starts in training camp, everyone has to report at the end of september and it starts that way
- everyone is willing to work on that, even the new guys.

7) You are coming to town in a couple weeks for a basketball camp for kids, coming up in 2 weeks...

- doing sessions august 16-20 and 23rd-27th This is my first basketball camp I want to give back to the kids. There are a lot of kids who play ball and I am trying to bring back to the city and give them an opportunity to meet almost all the Raptors on the team derozan, jack and amir will be there (he referred the these guys and Bargs as the "core" of the team)

- Just trying to bring back to the city something that I never had a chance to do as a kid

- get all the information from sonnyweems24.com

8) In the past you had a couple of skeletons in the closet off the court, you've done a good job keeping clean, all of sudden you have a camp for kids...is this just a sign of your maturation as a person let alone as a player?

- As a player people put you on a pedestal that you can't reach. You have eyes watching you ALL the time (dad is a pastor, mom is a minister) growing up my folks kept me very grounded

- Staying out of trouble is the most important thing because you can't go anywhere in life if you are in the news always getting in trouble

9) Seems like you jack, derozan and amir are talking the "young gunz' thing seriously...do you believe that your group can take this team to the next level and the post season with bosh?

- I believe 110% in my heart that the young gunz can bring this franchise to being a championship contender team. Down the line in a couple years if we stay around and get some people to help, we all talked about it- everyday.....

- Whenever we talk, we talk about this upcoming season. We talk about changing the face of this franchise. We have that team comradery.

10) You are active on twitter, social media is a large part of the game. When it comes to Bosh (ignoring the team aspect) the way things went down with all the tweeting and the live press conference... Did you like that? What was your reaction?

- I didn't react at all. Whatever those guys do, they do. He's Bosh, he's Lebron, I'm Sonny Weems. Whatever happens in their life is fine I just want to help my team and set my family up for the rest of their lives.

I listened to the latter part of the interview. It was very encouraging when he said "Me, DeMar, and Amir, we truly believe that we could turn this franchis around".

I might just be a bit paranoid, but do you guys find this comment a bit disturbing? When he was giving comments about the core of the team, he said that himself, DeMar DeRozan, Amir Johnson and Jarrett Jack are to core. Then, he quickly added Bargnani. 2 oberservations: 1- He referred Andrea only to his last name, unlike the other core players. 2- He was kind of late in saying that Andrea was one of the core players. So I don't know if it's just me or not, but there seems to be a disconnection between Andrea and the Young Gunz core. Anyone wanting to comment on that?

Thanks, dude.

I was listening to it, but I had to take phone call.

I did also hear him say that he wants to help grow basketball in Canada and specifically Toronto which is one of the reasons for his camp or something like that.

Bargnani always distances himself from teammates, the only person he talks to is Marco... if Bargnani cared about syncing with the team, he wouldn't always be in italy the whole summer

Thanks Reni work's been kinda busy today so I couldn't listen in.

I'm loving the winner's mentality that they possess, it should keep them hungry for improvement.

not to defend Bargs, i'm not interested in it, but just as information, he attended his own kid's camp and then he went with the national team and he'is still there. they have games scheduled an august 2 and the next days. this is why is not in Canada

I would agree in saying that Andrea distances himself from the team.. Hence the reason he's rarely talking to anyone.. even bosh, they'd sit on the bench and not say a word. Bargs is a serious introvert.

Does Bargs seem comfortable during interviews in his own country, or is it just like this here in Toronto?
