Before we trade, we gotta at least try having him come off the bench. I think there are very few backup big men in the NBA that can check him, and effect of Bargs' bad defense will hopefully be minimized by less talented players. It's been straight up painful watching him this season, especially knowing that he can play at a high level. If that doesn't light a fire under him, then we trade.

Sure, it will most likely be at a lower value, but how much would we lose anyway? It's not like he's gonna net us a good two-way player in return right now, anyway.

Bargnani is a relic of a different time in Raptor-land, a time when offensive prowess was valued above all else, a time when the team was defined by a different cast of characters and a different guiding philosophy. For fans, he is a nightly reminder of what this team is supposed to be moving away from. The club wants to be seen as a gritty, defence-first outfit that wins with heart and hustle, and Bargnani is simply the antithesis to that style. He no longer belongs. Like so many Raptors before him, he has teased fans with what he could be and has refused to live up to that standard.

Perhaps more than anything, that is the reason the Raptors have to trade Bargnani. They can no longer shrug their shoulders at players that don't work to max-out their talent. That can no longer be a defining characteristic of the club. They cited DeMar DeRozan's work ethic as a big reason why they felt obligated to extend his contract. They cited Jonas Valanciunas' heart and hustle as big factors in not only drafting him fifth but being willing to wait a year for his arrival. They love the intensity of guys like Kyle Lowry and Amir Johnson. Those guys represent what the club says it wants to be about, which by extension has to mean that Andrea Bargnani does not.
Sorry, but Chisholm thought it was a good idea to build around Bargnani just months ago, thinking that the grit and intensity of others would make up for his deficiencies. It's been clear for four years that his deficiencies would just negate a lot of good effort from others, and that even with Andrea at his best this team would hit a definitive ceiling.

Give me a break Chisholm. Remind me how you thought Ed Davis had no place here.

I doubt he is even tradeable right now, but if he gets it together and puts a nice run, we'd have to be crazy not to trade him if the right opportunity comes along. The only problem is, if he starts playing better, most will prefer to keep him ...

now now, just because Bargnani has gone in the toilet, don't go starting rumors that Ed Davis is a starting caliber PF on any team but a lottery team.

While he may not be a starting caliber PF at this point, I would much rather have him on the floor from a competitive standpoint than Primo Pasta Andrea.

Exactly, the Raptors (no offence but no playoffs since the 07-08 season and the playoffs are no guarantee this season).

yeah, but that's because Bargnani really, really sucks right now. Obviously the hope is that he'll return to last season's form eventually, otherwise he's beyond useless. You have to think that, barring some hidden issues, he has to recapture his form. There haven't been any major changes to our starting lineup (like a position shift, new coach etc) that could account for the massive drop in productivity.

Defense-wise, Bargnani was always a guy who needs to get his offense going in order to stay engaged on defense. Not ideal, but that's the way it is. I think once his offense returns, his defense will pick up as well.

Can somebody tweet DeMar and Amir to get Andrea to come in to the gym with them? He really looks like he's just been having conditioning problems and lord knows he's not used to expending as much energy on D as he has or should be. He doesn't have nearly as much definition this year and the summer off didn't help. Some extra beef would really help his drives.

I think it would be great if Bargs came off the bench but not sure if he is willing to. He might have too much pride and cause a problem.

i could see team like :
orlando, phoenix, cleveland, phily
whom could want to take on barg.
yeah we love/hate him here, but he is still a solid pf in this league, not a top 5 but he is a top 15 PF in this league.

so yeah, i could see him trade if we vould have something real in return.

I would kill for Anderson Varejao. He'd really be perfect for us.

haven't people heard of "buy low?"

bargs has a good scoring record in this league, heck his ppg is even ok this season, they might ignore or excuse away the fg%.

they may convince themselves "hey, he just doesn't fit there, he'll fit better here next to our SF and C." (which by the way i think may well be true.)

i think he has value, and if a few teams think of buying low we may actually get a bidding war! (haha!)

we've probably had offers in the last couple of years and BC and possibly even DC have not wanted to trade him yet or the return wasn't good enough.

Not a chance Doug Collins would want AB.
Orlando might be tempted by Hedo, AB reunion (not), but they have Al Harrington who's better than AB. Unless we trade for Hedo! Yay! Imagine, no ball hoggers, so Hedo will thrive!
Suns have Beasley.
Anyway, no one will consider AB as a starting PF, so we shouldn't be afraid benching him.

Better off keeping him and playing the shit out of him until he either "gets it" or quits.

Really? He may have pride, but not in a basketball way. I imagine not a sneer from him if asked to be a bench guy.
