Really, that shouldn't be news. Nine new players are suiting up for the club this season, and unlike in 2006 when the same number of new faces was brought in, the bulk of the new additions are untested commodities. When Anthony Parker, Jorge Garbajosa, T.J. Ford and Rasho Nesterovic were slotted into the Raptors' rotation three years ago, they were all fairly savvy and proven basketball commodities that knew how to slide into a new system. Even if Parker and Garbajosa were unfamiliar with NBA basketball, they'd both been playing the game long enough to know what it takes to succeed at any level, and both adapted to the league quickly.

Although I do understand the message he is trying to convey and I agree with him, I don't get his arguments. Most of the current new players are NBA proven as well with few exceptions: Demar DeRozan and at some extent Amir Johnson. The rest should be quite familiar with NBA: Hedo, Jack, Belinelli, Evans, Wright, Rasho. Not a big difference between the situations when Garbo and A. Parker joined Raptors. Still early to draw any conclusions, this team certainly needs time to start playing at NBA high level, they do have the skills. Damn, there are too many variables that have to go right in order to have a very good Raptors. As fan, all I can do is just to cross fingers and hope for the best.

Absolutely. In fact, I'd argue that Jack, Turk, Wright, Belli and even Amir are much better known commodities than Parker or Garbo have been back then.

He should have simply said that 9 new players (at least two of them starters and many of the rest - rotation players) will take time to gel as a team. IMHO, a rookie head coach is a bit too much "new" in this situation, but alas, their dye is cast and so it begins...

They haven't played an actual game yet. It's really crazy to try to take away much of anything from what has happened so far. You can see that Reggie will be missed, but there's not much indication of how much Wright was missed, and it could be that it was quite big. They really didn't put together an offensive gameplan to cover more than a quarter yet. And they can be expected to improve defensively, at least minimally and maybe more, as everything becomes more second-nature.
