Chisholm: It was Plan B for the Raptors

Quote:
All that said, though, it's hard to get ‘excited' about this pick. The Raptors really believed that they were going to be able to get a solid tier two prospect out of this draft, but the only one that fell to them was project center Andre Drummond, and they were not ready to wait the three-to-four years it could take from Drummond to learn how to be an NBA player. Once the club had to settle for a third tier guy, then Ross made as much sense as any player on the board for Toronto. But being the first team in the draft that has to accept a player from the next tier down will always dim the excitement level for a franchise and its fan base. As a team you always want to WANT the guy you're drafting, and even Casey and Bryan Colangelo couldn't hide their disappointment on Thursday night when Ross was the player that they had to select. They are happy to bring him aboard, he fits what they are doing and the needs of the roster, but there was no denying that he was not their first choice heading into the draft.

Chisholm: Raptors get their Plan B but very happy with Ross

Absolute baseless assumptions on his part. Nothing like making a factual statement from somebody's supposed facial expression.

the nets fucked us, the played the d league out there we had the better players in the last game and we won

the end result we get the 8th pick because of the coin flip, golden state puts on full tank mode and gets the 7th pick, and nets put on full tank to try to save there pick and end up losing it on draft lottery night

end result

we got a tier 3 prospect and golden state has a tier 2 prospect

nba needs to fix tanking

charles barkley had it right every team should get 1 ball in the lottery, 1 to 14, it will make the league more competitive,

i would settle for 7 geting two lotter balls and 8 to 14 geting 1 better odds for the bad teams but wont force anyone wanting to take

Not to sound too bitter, but this goes to everyone who was on "let's not tank" bandwagon this season - how about them apples? Still like the team that competed every night?

Personally, this season has been a serious disappointment. Even taking into account somewhat short contracts for GM and head coach, I was hoping against hope that they would be able to take a longer view of the franchise building and realize just how preposterous is the idea of building through avenues other than draft in Toronto. If NJ and Charlotte and Washington and GS could tank blatantly then so could the Raptors and they'd have now had a much more promising young player, even if he didn't have a unibrow. Going after Nash in free agency? Really? That's your plan for building a contender in TO? Val is coming, he is like a high lottery pick, so it's OK to get a so-so guy with the actual lottery pick? What kind of fallacy is this?

I am not questioning the selection of Ross with #8. I am questioning winning all those meaningless games in April and throwing money at 38-year old Nash, once again demonstrating just how truly myopic our management is. So frustrating...

Experience to derozan davis johnson and corporation is just as important as a potential barnes over ross. Keep in mind its a lottery and had the raps lost a couple more games we cpuld have ended up with the 10 th pick. So many things change. Im happy for the pick and after reading up on him am very happy. I sincerely believe he'll surprise and do quite well

Definitely think you're on the right track. I'd give the worse teams a little better chance to win the lottery though than teams that just missed the playoffs.

yeah, i still like the way the team competed.

i believe if we had tanked last season it would've been extremely hard for casey to start trying to instill his values this season.

Really would've liked Harrison Barnes in a Rap's uniform. Gotta deal with the cards you have been dealt. Can you imagine a Valanciunas, Thomas Robinson, and Kyrie Irving team. Good thing Cleveland has little patience. I hope Ross works out, because if we do get Nash, there are no Top 10 picks anymore. Derozan, Ed Davis, Valunciunas, and Ross are the building blocks.

I'll take wins that are the by product of a culture and system change over just tanking.

Any day.

Whoever thinks that getting Barnes would have made a significan difference to this franchise probably hasn't watch him play much OR is expecting a lot from a guy who'll be incredibly lucky to become Luol Deng at some point in his career.

yo mods can we just delete this thread, the title is just shitty, and its negative. If a fedw chips fall over the next week or so, plan be will be looking pretty nice if you ask me, why perpetuate this idea and start a rookies time here off on a negative vibe.
