Chisholm: Colangelo and his summer of change

Quote:
In many ways, too, this has been the summer that most closely resembles the implications made when Colangelo took over the club in 2006. He wasn't just advertised as man who could push through a trade a trade or two; he was sold as savior that would bring a culture change to this adolescent squad. He was thought of as an executive that would end the rollercoaster ride of the previous decade and plant the Raptors, with some measure of permanence, in the relevant thick of the Eastern Conference

By that measure this has certainly been the most remarkable summer in Raptors history, but it also portends that the oft-cited culture change that was said to come with Bryan Colangelo may have finally come to pass as well.

We're in here fighting over who's better at the end of the rotation because its actually worth talking about. That's a wonderful change from the last couple seasons and most of the Raptors' history in general

I think the change of culture happened in his first season. What he's hopefully accomplishing now is reaping the benefits of that change, and putting the team on firm ground for many years to come. It's going to take winning fairly big to ensure that though, so it's going to actually come down to what happens on the court. But it does offer some indication as to how big winning a good number of games could be this time around. It's really something to be excited about, well beyond the raising of the banner that we enjoyed a few years ago. And it should mean something that is more sustainable than that season's success was.

When the JO trade first occured, the only thing I like about it was getting rid of Ford. I actually like this off season a lot. In 06-07 we had 47 wins and BC tried to fix something that wasn't broken. Now we were a brokend team so we got rebuilt and BC targeted all of our problems including athleticism, defence, and depth.
