useless?

if jv turns out to be a bust, we're still in a good position with gasol. if he turns out to be a good player, the worst case scenario is that we have two starting calibre nba centres and we can trade one of them.

sounds fantastic to me. better than having 2 baylesses...

everyone else mentioned in this thread is either an injury risk (oden, sam d), or just plain garbage (kwame).

while Gasol would be expensive, he'd give us our first ever real NBA C.
and since he's young, he'd be a staple here for many years to come.
nah Kwame was actually a serviceable player last season especially near the end of the season.. about time.

the guy averages 15/11, and you are complaining that 70% of his points are from right below the rim?

we had Bargs last year as center.... 99% of his points were from 15 feet out. LOL

a center is supposed to score most of his points in the paint!

Are you seriously complaining about a Center that plays at the rim?

+1

Have to keep in mind JV is at least a couple years away from starting consistently with starter minutes and Gasol would be a good mentor. If anything a move like this would push Davis behind Bargs at PF. The more assets the better IMO

I too would be surprised if Memphis let him go though.

thats not what he's complaining about.....jeez
that was a response to a post that said JV could possibly move to PF
and he replied with how is that possible because currently most of his points come from below the rim.

Jonas/Davis/Amir
Gasol/Amir/Alabi
gotta agree with people who say getting gasol would not be a problem for val. IF we got gasol i would forsee us having 3 starting calibre bigs (gas, val, ed,) no problem there, minutes shared. As others have said if val and ed are both top players then maybe you trade gasol, he would get us good pieces back.

people worrying about val playing at PF, firstly not a huge problem if for 15-20 mins a game you've got 2 bigs who can't shoot mid range jumpers (IF val doesn't improve that!) And you would probably do that at times in the game when you're keeping it tight in the paint, for defensive reasons.

Why don't we just frontload a contract for Gasol (like we did with Linas)? I'm sure Memphis would have troubles matching if we offered him 10 mill in his first year.

Sorry, I'm probably one of the few guys who would want Bargs to stay but I want him coming off the bench for Davis which means we should trade Amir when JV comes over. Yes Amir is a hustle player and has played his heart out, but assuming we actually land Gasol, I rather the rotation be:

Gasol/VJ
ED/Bargs

As you saw with Jason Terry this year, a player who can score off the bench is a key to winning championships (Lamar Odom with the Lakers, Ginobli with the Spurs back then, etc). It is the reason Miami, Chicago and OKC lost.

with the new CBA you can't afford keeping a back up PF taking up 1/6 th of your teams salary... especially when you could have another big man at almost $10 mil per (Gasol)

Agreed. When healthy, Oden is the center we've all been craving for. Maybe if we signed a few really good conditioning coaches we'd be good to go.

But I don't want him. Lets go after Dalembert.
Do you know something about the new cba that we don't? Because, currently, there's no limit on what they can match. And they will match, they'd be stupid not to.
