Chisholm: Bosh needs other Raptors to stand up

Quote:
Okay, so at this point it seems pretty safe to say that Chris Bosh has come to play.

He has a lot riding on this season, both in terms of his finances and his reputation, and it has shown with his commitment not only to scoring and rebounding, but also in his commitment to just work when he's out on the court. He's forcing his way into games and the team is the better for his efforts.

Now who is going to join him?

After an offseason spent hunting all corners of the NBA landscape to try and find Bosh some meaningful help, very little of that help has come to play. Sure, one guy here and one guy there will show up for a game or two, but if Bosh and this team are going to go anywhere meaningful this season, they are going to have to find some more consistency amongst the supporting cast.

Here's what the situation boils down to: in the last eighteen months, the Raptors have committed $150-million dollars in contracts to Jose Calderon, Hedo Turkoglu an Andrea Bargnani.

All three are making well above the NBA average and all three are counted on to provide some tangible and consistent output alongside Chris Bosh. Right now, that ain't happening.

Sure, Jose is adjusting to a lot of new teammates, as is Hedo (who also has a nagging hip injury) and Andrea is still trying to secure his feet in the NBA, but at some point one of these guys is going to need to lead the charge as Bosh's sidekick. Each is being paid a large (even by NBA standards) salary and none are yet living up to the largess of their paychecks.

When he is on, we are winning

The question is - why does he seem to flick the switch to off too often, particularly on the road? If Bargnani plays hard consistently we are looking at a nice record above .500 right now.

Now I'll give him a chance to get to that point yet. The season is still early. But let's not pretend like he doesn't need to give this team anymore than he has. "We go as far as big man goes" has so far gone two different ways. In some bad losses, he's been responsible.

hedo is begining to this alot more throughout the game, now its jose and Bargs is turn. Bargnani is so inconsistent throughout games like one quarter he will be on fire the other quarter he will be non existent, and Jose just needs to score more 3's during key moments like 2 years ago.

Great piece by Chisholm by the way. He might be panicking a bit too much as of this point though. I give them another two weeks before I start freaking out completely myself. And I've got a good feeling that won't be necessary. But more than ever, I would be fascinated to be able to read BC's thoughts right now.

My God other than with the Lakers
Bosh and Bargs are one of the best 1-2 combination in the NBA points/rebounds/assists
Think only Washington and Atlanta have better 1 & 2 punch
But that also doesn't take into consideration Agent Zero's turnover ratio worst in NBA
Bosh is #2 41.1 and Brags #50 26.0 =67.1
With Hedo and Andreas they have 4 in top 100. Hedo will get better as the year goes on.
Jack may be ot of funk????
Some of the Eastern teams have had a cake walk schedule Milkaukee for one and Indiana for another. Chicago will be well under 500 by the end of the week.
Toronto will be back in top 8 again this week....predict end of season #5.
I live in Shenzhen China so harder for me to watch games.

I don't get into the numbers at all Lao - although I'll grant that you have an excuse to not go on what you see. Even with those numbers though - that's a pretty big drop-off from #2 for one guy, to #50 for another. I simply think Bargnani could be miles better yet, and especially on defense where he has looked lackadaisical, and there's no numbers to show just how inexcusable that is.
