I usually agree with Tim and enjoy his work, but don't agree with that sentiment at all. Marco has alot more to offer all around than Kapono ever could. Sure Kapono might be the better pure shooter, but the comparison ends there in my opinion.

Seriously, Kapono can't do half the things and doesn't have half the court vision/passing ability that Belinelli has. This makes him sound like a puckhead.

The title is a mischaracterization of the article. While "poor man's ___" is usually intended to mean a person with the same characteristics but less talent than another, Chisholm means it in the literal sense, which is to say they got back the shooter they lost in Kapono for less money. He also mentions how Belinelli's skill set is more varied than Kapono's, citing his far superior skill at handling the ball. FTA: "The nice thing about acquiring a guy like Belinelli is that he actually brings a lot of the same characteristics as Jason Kapono did last year, except at a fraction of the cost and with some added abilities, to boot." These are just about the same things we've been saying since we got him... it was just a poor choice of a title. |

Jason might have had the height to shoot over guys, but he never did. I don't think Belli will be as shy.
And spotty defender? That's a bad thing isn't it? Did he mean spot-up defender? I don't know what that means though - he defends spot up shooters? |

It was meant as a compliment... by "spotty defender" he means that while he may not be a lockdown defender, he does a decent job. He's contrasting this with Kapono, implying that the latter did not defend at all.

Exactly. Chisholm isn't saying that Belinelli is worse, in fact he's praising his versatility and talent. All he said was that he comes with a cheaper price tag, which is totally accurate. I agree with pretty much everything in that article. |

How does spotty mean doing a decent job? It means uneven and patchy. That doesn't strike me as a characteristic of a decent defender.

"Spotty defender" is definitely not a compliment. Chisholm is saying Belinelli can't guard his own shadow, which fits in perfectly with the rest of the Raptors line-up.
I would assume he's a better defender than Kapono though. He'd pretty much have to be. Last edited by Dann38; 08-10-2009 at 04:17 PM. |

It's pretty much nonsensical. I think he combined two different thoughts at once and failed to notice. Ah well.
The mention of James Singleton makes up for it. He should have pushed for need to get this guy as a good compliment to guys that can't defend so well. I'd be as happy as Jeff is about Belli, if we got Singleton. |

But overall, it's still a quite positive review of Belinelli. Last edited by roma1092; 08-10-2009 at 04:43 PM. |

kapono is a spot up shooter with the highest 3PT% of all-time, which kind of shows you exactly how much of a spot up shooter he is
belinelli is less spot up and more of a create his own shot kind of guy and more of a playmaker type the only thing their games have in common is that they shoot the ball |
