J. J. Barea is a FA in the offseason and has played pretty well all year including the playoffs. Having him as a backup PG would be great. He's an energetic sparkplug, runs the fast break pretty well, is totally fearless going to the net, is a decent 3-point shooter, has good court vision and is a great passer, and he'd come with a wealth of playoff experience.

DAL is going to be over the cap to start '11-12 and they need to re-sign Chandler, are developing Beaubois and Dominque Jones at PG and SG, and want to get bigger in the backcourt, all of which means they might decide to let Barea go. Barea might want to go somewhere where he has a good chance to start.

McDyess retired, not much use for Ben Wallace if we already have Reggie and Dorsey. I doubt, Billups wants to join a rebuilding team.

Honestly we had one year of real rebuilding, I want this thing turned around as soon & as much as anyone here, but lets see what we do the 1st halph of next season if there is one?

At least before we start bringing in vets.

I'd rather just wait for the lockout to happen and get another free top end lotto pick without having to make our players depressed with a losing season lol :P

So if the lockout takes up the entire season, the lottery positions are the same?

Anyways I don't think they will lock down the entire season.

I think they redo the draft with the same odds

Caron Butler?

He's 31, but i have a feeling Dallas won't re-sign him. Would you give him the MLE?

Knight?
Derozan
Butler
Davis
?

And still Jose, Bargnani, Barbosa, TPE to deal for a Center and a backup 2?

I always liked Caron Butler. Creates his own shots, plays defence and his personality suits the veteran role. I believe they call him "Tough Juice" for his toughness. Not sure if he'll sign to Toronto, but I wouldn't mind at all if he does.

Assuming the injury didn't totally fuck up his short term health, I think a team would give him more than the MLE, as long as it's a short contract.

edit - Jeff, to answer your question: yes, if Caron can pass a physical that demonstrates he is close to being in the shape he was in just before the injury, I would give him a contract equal to the MLE. Remember, we have cap space, so, unless we use the TPE and absorb salary, or do a lopsided trade in which we take back extra salary, the MLE is irrelevant. The Raps have more cap space than what the MLE is worth.

Probably true. But considering his age and prolonged time on the shelf this season i wouldn't think it would be much more..7Mil?

I don't know. Depends on the degree to which he recovered, I suspect. Anyways, I edited my post and answered your question. In theory, I kinda like your pick. Again, it takes minutes away from James Johnson, which sorta sucks, but, if combined with other moves, it could make things interesting. Ideally, I'd rather see the team bring in a guy like Caron at the end of next season.

I'm all for another year of tankage. The 2012 draft looks stacked. :cookie:

Butler is worth a lot more than just the MLE. A lot of people call him the toughest wing in the league. Not just that but he can score if you just send him the ball. I'd pay the MLE and then some for him for about 2 years.

well if the lockout does happen, its a win for hte owners that means its going to be a win for Toronto, and some teams that spend a ton are going to need to shed salary, Raptors could one of those teams picking up veterens to the team,

I would say 5 things we need to address this off season

1. real Center, its put up or shut up time for Bargs, he wants to play his natural role it says he would be better there, we lets see

2. PG, replacing Jose, or moving jose to the bench, I believe Bayless could be the future starter of the team, and jose would be better off hte bench

3. Veteren players, Butler could be got

4. deal with the coaching situation, decide on triano

5. integrating a defensive style, maybe hire a defensive guy from chicago or miami to help the coaching staff

1. I believe this off-season BC has only two choices that can benefit Bargs. He can trade Bargs or he can move him to PF thus damaging Davis' development. If he doesn't get an offer that satisfies him, he'll stick with him at the C spot for the time being.

2. Yeah, if we don't pick up Knight or Walker, I'm fine with developing Bayless. Either for the future, or for the time being until 2012's PG stacked draft.

I would not be surprised to see chicago throw some money at Crawford.

I think Karilanko would be a good fit, between him and JJ we would be stacked up defensively at the 3. I also think we could get Feschanko on the cheap and he would be a great physical back up center behind Bargs.

Do you mean Kirilenko? If so, I agree that AK-47 would be a nice fit in Toronto. My main concern with his is that he's extremely injury prone, which has taken away a lot of his athleticism. He's still a good player, but he's pretty much now relegated to being a supporting player.
