Charlie Villanueva too fat to play for the dominican republic

He showed promise his rookie year, but it's been downhill from there.

Quote:

After several days of speculation as to why the Detroit Pistons forward was not training with the Dominicans, national team coach John Calipari has explained why.

Calipari, who guided the team to a bronze medal last summer at the FIBA Americas Championship and then led the Kentucky Wildcats to the NCAA title, is working out with the Dominicans in Lexington.

Villanueva had a private workout for the Dominican Republic in New York and didn't leave a good impression.

"Charlie was not in good form when we saw him," Calipari said to Deportes en la Z.

"He was overweight, and unfortunately, we could not slow down the entire team and it was a decision taken collectively."

Lol

I dont know why, but I never really liked the guy..

LilRomeo 06-12-2012 08:27 PM

At least he's a badass.

INSIDER 06-12-2012 09:20 PM

This actually made me laugh

bjjs 06-12-2012 09:58 PM

I was really hoping for a picture

He's one of the few people who I dislike in this league. I remember his "easy win tonight " tweet about the raps.

Don Vito 06-12-2012 10:11 PM

Good sign Dumars :cookie:

Bill Haverchuck 06-12-2012 10:18 PM

He must have done something really wrong in a short period of time, because a few months ago the Pistons were claiming that he lost 30 lbs this season. He had supposedly been training really hard so that he could challenge others for some playing time. He must have lived on junk food. Oh, Charlie. You silly fatass.

rapsmannn 06-12-2012 11:44 PM

its to bad what happen to tj ford, if he was healthy he would still be playing at a high level, when t.j is at his best he makes teams into playoff teams

meanwhile you got charlie v throwing away his career because he doesnt csare

JoeyJoJo Shabbadu 06-12-2012 11:51 PM

Really must be an total dick for calipari to say this in public. You just don't say these kind of vile (career ending) things in public with unless you're furious. the rest is fluff to hide this.

Scrub...another bad move drafting him (on Babcock's part)

Just ahead of Andrew Bynum

i liked Charlie and thought he showed a lot of promise during his rookie year with us, but clearly the motivation issues that we all heard about when he was drafted are still with him today. laziness is a disease too.

He did but it was a questionable pick to begin with since it was unclear if he was a PF or SF and Bosh was already here. Also it's very easy for weak players to come to Toronto and put up decent looking numbers, remember Mike James??? Yeah, that season he was here,he finished it averaging over 20 points per game. Still was a garbage player after he left lol, just a richer one

i wouldn't have called him a garbage player at all. I remember that season pretty well and watched lots (as i actually cared about the team back then LOL), and Charlie showed he was an amazing offensive talent. He came exactly as advertised: Very talented players with motivation issued. Still in terms of raw ability, he was anything but a garbage player, bailey. For a young player, scoring came very naturally to him.

agreed, only thing that sets his career apart from Ersan's is effort and dedication.

Charlie got caught up in the twitter world and trying to be the most popular and lost interest in getting better and earning his contract.

No,I'm calling Mike James garbage lol...I feel he just had a green light because that team was so desperate so he got lucky with his rhythm after shooting so many shots.

I think Charlie V had a good year with Toronto, but was a questionable pick because of the uncertainty of his natural position and our team needs at the time. I remember many people being surprised at that selection.

I also called Charlie V a scrub based on what he is now and especially his laziness since joining the Pistons after them giving him a big contract.

I still remember that 48 point game he put up late in his rookie season. Hilarious that we traded him to MIL, as that was who he put up that game against. Such an exciting offensive talent. Nothing else though.

That happens a lot more than it should... I think Gary Forbes was one of those guys if I'm not mistaken.

Teams see a guy torch them and remember it.... it's a what if feeling.

And yet we went and drafted Bargs just a few years later.

Charlie had some quality offensive talent in his rookie year. Avgd 13 & 6 on 46% shooting in less than 30 MPG. he actually turned out to be a hell of a steal in that draft. Problem is he went to a horrible situation, got paid big money and then stopped giving a fuarck. A shame really.
