Chad Ford: Raps would likely take Williams if they win the draft

You now have Raptors drafting Derrick Williams #1. Is this from what you're hearing from their Front Office?

The Mock Draft is based on sourcing inside teams. However, it's very early in the process. I think they could go either way, but I believe they are leaning toward Williams ... yes.

Another tidbit from Chad Ford regarding the potential big man from the draft:

"Kanter is the most NBA ready I think. Very skilled. But lacks size and elite athleticism. Valanciunas is a major talent. But he's a bit further away and I think a potential buyout issue could keep him out of the NBA a few years like Ricky Rubio. Bismack has the most upside of the group -- but he's also the furtherest away."

If we get the third pick.. we are fucked. If we draft Williams I'd expect Jose to be gone. Imagine if Jose starts next season...

Jose is extremely underrated. I wouldn't mind if he starts TBH. We can always find a PG in next years draft (which will be MUCH deeper). Williams is the best player available in this draft and I don't see any reason not to take him #1 overall.

Dutches 04-28-2011 02:20 AM

if we end up taking Williams Weems is as good as gone.

Klieza, JJ, Williams all at the 3... LOG JAM!

but we do need to take BPA...

Shifty.py 04-28-2011 05:14 AM

I don't understand. Whats wrong with Irving? Fills a need and is a great player.
While Williams is stuck between 3 and 4, both positions we already have good young players

rapsmannn 04-28-2011 06:03 AM

big fan of Derrick Williams extremely clutch

where not that far off from being a 50 win team,

I think we should focus on trading Amir for a true center, so Davis could be the first big off the bench instead of Amir, considering BC plan is to get Bargnani a true center,

a trade like Amir for Haywood would be a solid trade

starting lineup of

Calderon
Derozan
Williams
Bargnani
Haywood

could be a good team, especially with the rise of Derozan and the closer that Williams can be, and if Bargnani makes any kind of improvement on defensive rebounding would make a huge difference which I believe he finally understand that he has to get better in that part of hte game

I also like Kenyon Martin alot I think going out and signing him would be huge for hte Raptors, especially guys like Bargnani who needs a guy like Martin to set up him straight, it would be a like a Oakley deal for Vince

What does Williams have to do with Jose?

Also, I think Ford is just guessing on this one. No real source.

I think you are seriously underrating Amir. He's only 23 with 7 or 8 years under his belt. He's got a lot of potential with the way he plays and practices, and he'll probably be way better than Haywood will ever be.

If we have to trade Amir(Which I'm against, would much rather trade Bargs for a real center or PG, Amir's just plays way too hard while Bargs is soft), I really want something good coming back. Not a Haywood or a Martin.

Alex 04-28-2011 08:13 AM

I'm hoping on Irving. Then Williams. Then Kemba.

Because there is a youth movement on this team. Why would Jose start? He isn't in the future plans for this team, its just wasting everyones time. If we don't draft a PG then I'd want Bayless to start. If it doesn't work out then theres always next years draft or free agency.

no way davis is 1st off the bench. he should be starting PF from game 1 next season. IF bargnani is still around, then he should be first off the bench to satisfy his 6th man/instant offense/7 ft jamal crawford role.

as long as bargnani is here, as much as he should he won't be a 6th man. Won't happen. I seriously hope Bargnani is dealt and we go forward with a real Center and Davis/Amir and maybe even Evans at PF. This team will never far with Bargnani playing 35mpg unless he's the third option which then takes away from the one thing he actually does well. He needs to go.

i dunno. i call smokescreen. in a league that's becoming increasingly more guard-driven, irving fills much more of a need. besides i like what james johnson brings.

bc did this in 09 too - reports came out saying he'd pick flynn (i know he went earlier) and johnson if they were there at 9.

Scully 04-28-2011 12:26 PM

I think there is a greater need for us at SF then PG. Josie is going tobe here till the dead line, imo as an expiring his value only increases as the season goes on. I would love to see both Amir and Bargs gone over the off season.

Is Dorsey Gone? I would rather put his milion toward resigning Reggie.

josie isn't on an expiring.....

Yeah, cause what we really need is a tweener forward who doesn't have the quicks to play NBA defense.

I like Williams and I think he's the most immediately NBA-ready college player. However, he will struggle like Beasley (and he's not close to as talented as Beasley) who is too small to play the four but not quick enough to guard NBA threes.

Edit: Just saw on NBADraft that they compare him to Beasley, too. This is not a good thing.

Tweener? He's a 6'8" 235lbs SF. And he's a great shooter, something this team lacks. He's not a great defender, which is why i'd rather get Irving. But in this draft class, he's the 2nd best player going in. If we get a top 2 pick we'll get one of the two.

He looked alot more athletic than Beasley though.

'trane 04-28-2011 01:34 PM

if he's like beasley and drops 14/5 in year one, 15/6.5 in year 2 and 19/5.5 in year 3, i'm all for drafting him.
