Raptors CBS Sports: Valanciunas new physicality on display

Raptors' Jonas Valanciunas' new physicality is on display in Vegas - CBSSports.com

Quote:
He's only 21 years old and most centers don't typically start truly hitting their stride until the age of 25, but a rebuilding/retooling/restructuring team like the Raptors need him to be a presence inside sooner rather than later.
Valanciunas already looks much bigger than he did when we last saw him in April. He's definitely added muscle, how much is certainly debatable. But the key with Valanciunas' added muscle is he's not only filling out his frame, he's filling out his impact in the paint.
In his first summer league of 2013, he dominated the paint in the first half of the game. He showed off his added power by finding the space inside the key to crush the rim. He had several dunks early on and scored 20 points on just eight shots in the first 20 minutes of the game. He had five rebounds to go with it and a lot of "oh's" and "ah's" from the crowd as he looked like a good old-fashioned center exuding his dominance.
Quote:
It wasn't just an aberration that Jonas Valanciunas seemed to be a new force for Toronto's interior; everybody in the arena was taking notice and celebrating it. In the second half, the Miami Heat's summer league team doubled him hard in the post almost every time he touched the ball. They tried to get him uncomfortable so he'd make mistakes instead of taking advantage of their defensive mistakes of letting him go against single coverage.

How in the hell did we manage to lose this game???
That Miami lineup looks ugly, starting with Kabongo...

Just watching him now. He looks like he's having a great time itch the physical play. I love seeing it, as long as he doesn't get hurt, but then again, he might be solid enough to be really durable regardless. Great to be able to get hopes up already.

Not as quick running up and down the floor I find though. It looks like some of the weight isn't muscle. lol

Because we didn't have shooters for JV to pass to every time he was double teamed. It should have been a field day for Ross to get his shot off every time Jonas was trapped by the Heat. But Ross doesn't get it yet and doesn't react well yet to game situations.

Kabongo was ugly, but the Miami SL team has some good prospects and they've been well schooled in the Miami defensive system.

He was tired and you didn't have to be rocket scientist to notice that. It would be foolish to think that these extra pounds will slow him or his motor down for that matter. Cut it some slack, the kid played great and I believe within every game he will be more faster and play better.

You cannot lose fat and put muscle on at the same time. They are opposing goals. They fat will come off quick in training camp.

It should be off by then. He's got SL and right after that he'll play for his national team for 4-6 weeks I believe.

some of his moves were a little clumsy, struggled once the double team came, and forced it a little too much because he only had 1 thing in his mind "to score"
if he can learn how to get out of a double team and learn how to use him teammates better he's going to be really good
i like the aggressiveness of his game though

I know this is the rule, and I know the reasoning behind it and it makes sense, but p90x always confuses me. 3 months people put on a lot of muscle but also get shredded

I don't ever believe they put on any muscle, but they tone, or they could start putting on muscle after losing the fat if they change their diet.

..................

that dude's put on muscle; a lot of it

I know what the nutrition plan is and not once does it change into excess calorie consumption to enable the "bulking".

I don't want to nitpick; I'm genuinely asking for clarification. Do you mean to say that, while losing fat, you can't put on muscle to the extent that your total weight goes up? That is, you can't do optimal muscle gaining. Although you'll gain muscle, it won't increase your weight, or be the best amount you can gain, since the efforts to lose fat hinder the muscle gains? Or do you mean to say that you literally can't put on ANY muscle while losing fat?

I'm not familiar with all the science behind these concepts, but I do have my own personal experience. At different points in my life, injuries forced me to stop exercising for extended periods of time. Each time I returned to the weights, I was out of shape to start. I had some extra fat to lose, with some strength lost. And every time I get back into lifting, I quickly see fat loss and increased strength. Within a couple of months, I'm always a bit lighter (even without heavy cardio), because I've lost fat, and considerably stronger, I've always assumed due to obvious muscle gain. And, from what I can tell, it's a steady process with respect to the fat loss and the strenght gains. I don't see one happening exclusive from the other. So, if you can't gain muscle while losing fat, then I have no idea how to explain what's happening with my body whenever I return to weights after a layoff.

Were getting off topic, but...

No he didnt put on a lot of muscle, if any. Honestly this pic looks faked and I'm linknig a vid in this comment that will seriously help make my point. This guy looks like he just came off a bulk and had a hih body fat. If you notice, none of his body gets bigger. His arms are bigger in the before pic, chest, traps, cant see legs though. Hes lost size. Actually no, his shoulder is clearly photoshopped. Getting delts that big/round at that low of a BF takes a lot more than 90 days and you need to do a lot better workout programs than piece of crap P90X.

Heres a vid that will show you how he did it. Note this might be a legitimate transformation (99% no)

Yeah, I know. He has several channels. He even posts workout videos on his furiouspete channel where most of the eating is located.

In addition to Pete, I like the Hodgetwins, too. Kevin and Keith crack me up.
