Casey's assessment of our roster

17Mil? :confused2:

This makes me think we'll trade our pick in a package to gain some toughness + experience.

Now 39 games into the season, Casey has a pretty good feel for what he has and what he doesn’t and without mentioning any names, gave a pretty good indication of what he is going to be looking for in the off-season when Bryan Colangelo taps into that $17 million or so he has at his disposal in free agency.

First and foremost Casey wants guys
who knows the league and aren’t shy when things get physical.

“Experience along with the young guys coming in is going to be important,” Casey said. “I don’t think we can bring in a lot of young guys in next season and expect to make the big steps that we want to make next year. I think we’ll be looking for experienced guys, guys who are tough, battle tested and been through the wars, I think that is important and I know Bryan has his eye on some guys who are going to be free agents next year.”

So forget the young improving guys. Casey already has those. He wants tried and tested.

“Mostly toughness and shooting are two of the keys,” he said. “We have a big man coming in, we have some perimeter players that are going through the natural progression of improvement with DeMar (DeRozan) getting stronger and bigger. James Johnson’s improvement. We’ve got some pretty good pieces as far as that’s concerned.”

We're gonna trade our pick for Reggie Evans? :confused2:

I don't care one bit what Casey is talking about - we are not trading the pick unless an amazing deal is offered. At least not a high-lottery one. ;)

If, on the other hand, Bargs comes back strong and this team shows that it can't even lose right - well then, it's a whole different ballgame. :(

Iggy!!!!

:cookie:

For anyone not willing to even entertain the idea of trading the pick, maybe BC and Casey both believe JV is ahead of schedule and there is enough youth on this team and we need a stud now..... Iggy, Gay, Deron.... do it up BC!

LOG 03-08-2012 11:14 PM

we need our pick to be as high as possible, we all know it, BC knows it and so does Casey. I expect that something will happen (trades, ''injuries'') that will help us to keep shitty record. Many of you are against tank, but will you be happy when we end up having 12 pick? or even worse trade our pick for some player that other team doesn't need? We need young/cheap talent with lots of potential and desire to proof himself in the league. Add this to what we have and our cap space and our future looks bright

you really think our pick could bring a player of that caliber?

agree 100%. we really need some veteran players that can not only be a locker presence but also be able to play on the court.

IF ONLY!!!!!!!! He's the dream scenario this summer that just won't happen. He's not coming here, even if he's told how good the team could be with himself, JV and AB.

If we signed Deron Williams I would lose my mind

Honestly, I don't think it's totally impossible. At least on the surface, the team with a really good YOUNG PF like AB, a very promising rookie at C in JV and somewhat promising 2-3 in DD and JJ plus, hopefully, a really good lottery pick is precisely the place Williams would want to be Da Man at, to grow with the team and to get a reasonably good shot at winning it all.

If we were in States, it would have been a very likely proposition.

Cuban's probably been talking to him for months already.... he's headed to DAL for sure.

Superjudge 03-09-2012 10:58 AM

Dont forget he knows HE will be the man on that team. He would like that. He's getting punked in NJ right now by other FA's who were maybe heading there. He might want his own up and coming team in order to carry out a personal vendetta to grab his glory.

Ya never know

True, but will Dallas be a better team with Deron and Dirk than Toronto with Deron, AB, JV, youngish wings, lottery pick and Jose as a backup?

Yes

MikeToronto 03-09-2012 11:03 AM

If I am Deron, I am bolting unless NJ manages to land Howard.

If he is bolting, landing here is one of the better options in terms of existing talent, players' age and marketing opportunities.
