Casey will run plays for Bargnani that Rick Carlisle ran for Nowitzki

I thought this was interesting. Bargnani has everything he needs to be successful next season(Defensive minded coach and system, playing the 4, and this).

It is clear by now that Andrea Bargnani never will live up to the Dirk Nowitzki comparisons he has been saddled with. But Dwane Casey, the former Dallas assistant who knows the ins and outs of Nowitzki’s game like few others, still sees similarities and will run similar plays for Bargnani that Rick Carlisle drew up for Nowitzki.

“He’s one of the best shooters in the world and we want to make sure we utilize that,” said Casey.

“I know a lot of people don’t like that (Nowitzki) comparison, but I know how those sets turn out and how they work. We’ll have a lot of sets for him. Inside-outside, because he has that great skill-set.”

Casey said he will force Bargnani to improve offensively by doing things he has shied away from in the past.

Hefty help for Bargnani | Basketball | Sports | Toronto Sun

The original column by Wolstat. Lots of good stuff there about Bargs and Gray in particular.

It's unfortunate that we never traded Bosh for a C before... maybe we could have already seen the breakout from AB sooner!

I like that they've finally got real size on this ream, not since Rasho and nothing else has that been the case.

Windex 12-13-2011 02:17 PM

Bargs at the 4 where he belongs :dancing:

ValanciunasFanboy 12-13-2011 02:21 PM

Sounds like a big time change for something (all offense) they planned to basically skip in this camp.
You could really use a month long camp.

neojiphre 12-13-2011 02:26 PM

It seems that Ed Davis won't be playing much this season, from these reports. Bargs shifting to 4, amir to 5, and Casey saying Ed won't be seeing a lot of playing time at 5.

Pretty sad, i like Ed more, a big man who actually plays close to the basket. He's got an old school game. From the day bargs was drafted, he's been coddled with dirk comparisons. While Ed was passed over by teams and dropped as low as 13 in draft

pretty sure you're going to see Ed/Bargs combo on the court sometimes. Ed will get 20 minutes per.

I wish Ed will really start for us this season or next. Since the day of the draft Bargnani has been compared to Nowitzki. But seeing how Casey is willing to set some big plays for him, Im expecting to see a huge breakout year from Ab before all fans go crazy about trading him once again.
It was either Bargnani - Nowitzki...Tyrus Thomas - Marion... Lamarcus Aldridge - Bosh
After this season I am expecting either Bargnani, Davis or Amir to be traded from the team. Though I have a feeling that Ed might be the one traded since he has higher value

Don Vito 12-13-2011 02:39 PM

Bargnani always wanted to play the 4 and he will finally get to. For the first time I am actually looking forward to what Bargnani brings.

TORaptor4Ever 12-13-2011 02:42 PM

I'm happy that Casey has come out and said this... because this season should finally be the unequivocal "put up or shut up" year for Bargs.

I just hope that he's judged beyond the number of long jumpers that he hits.

I agree! It's so exciting to see a coach that has a plan on offensive sets to go along with a defensive emphasis! Good times ahead for AB and the Raps!

Offensive sets for Bargs like Carlisle used with Dirk? Defensive sets that are adjusted for weaknesses and not an imposed system? Lmao, music to my ears and makes total sense - I said the exact same thing in another thread and so did many others here. Nice to have a coach that finally reads our forum before doing shit :dancing:

Someguy again 12-13-2011 05:31 PM

it'll be cool if we see bargnani make one play, and then nowitzki hit the exact same one

dfunkie1 12-13-2011 05:41 PM

why must we utilize his shooting! why don't we utilize his ability to take it to the rim? don't frustrate me dwane!

lol

you know what the most unfortunate thing is TORaps

just because it's a shortened training camp and the games are soooo close together, it just gives the enthusiastic people more excuses if he doesn't succeed.
