Casey wants Jose to continue shooting the ball more

Quote:

Jose Calderon is in his seventh year as a point guard for the Toronto Raptors.

Well, he has a new position. Sort of. Raptors coach Dwane Casey wants to see his point guard come off screens more to free himself for jumpshots.

“I do like him off the ball, where he comes off screens, pindowns,” Casey said. “Still, you’ve got another opportunity to set another pick-and-roll situation. So you could have multiple pick-and-rolls with him in the game. It gives us the versatility, especially with Jerryd coming back.”

You can understand what Casey is thinking. With Andrea Bargnani out of the lineup, a hot Calderon is the Raptors’ best shooter. Calderon is shooting 39-for-61 (64%) from the field over the last four games.

finally someone in the raptors organization sees his shooting touch. It only took a career high to do it :police:

Agreed. One of my biggest knocks on Jose is that he never shot enough. At lest until Bargnani comes back he's going to have to be a scorer.

Still trade his ass though. :eekout:

It's funny. I remember seeing him playing the Nets on valentines day three or four years ago. I think that might have been his career night up until this feb 14.

'trane 02-17-2012 03:23 PM

it's an obvious low-risk ploy to keep his assist to turnover ratio high.

Missed shots don't count as turnovers - missed passes do. So obvious.

And it's a nice way to get Jose to not settle into his natural tendency to stay out beyond the arc. This way he needs to be defended even if he plays safe.

Turning a pass first to a score first! How often does that happen?

Not hard to do. It's the opposite that's trouble.

Good PG that can score, score when it's needed. And right now it's certainly needed from him.

Even with the increased number of shots... still avging 10+ assts/gm and less than 2 TOs/gm.

Gotta like that.

Admiral 02-17-2012 04:50 PM

he needs to turn the corner more for layups like he did the first couple years he broke out and became a legit player

Caldy has to shoot more.....lol.....Caldy has to get the guys involved ........lol......Caldy plays better when he gets 35 -40 mins burn.........lol.......and most of you guys want to trade him.......lol

Caldy is your best player now and when Bargs get back these 2 guys will be a real force. With Caldy being more of scoring threat now....... if he continues to shoot......it will just open up for others.

Caldy and Bargs are keepers. You build around them .........you don't trade them.

Caldy has 2 to 3 good years ahead of him as are starter. We work the draft and look at the FA market for possible fits.

Bayless should take over Barbosa mins and role. We should trade Barbosa and get some help at the 3 spot.

jeffb 02-17-2012 06:48 PM

TRADE CALDY :mischief:
