Raptors Casey urging Derozan to attack the rim

Quote:
DeMar DeRozan recorded his best game of the season last Sunday, with a season-high 27 points and a career-high 16 free-throws, but followed that up with a poor performance against the Hawks on Tuesday.

Dwane Casey and his assistants continue to preach the need to attack the basket.

“Get to alleys,” he said. “Recognize going to the hole.

“We want him to go at guys,” Casey said. “Go at the shoulder. Don’t veer, don’t avoid contact. I’m a big believer that in any sport, you can’t have fear of going to a guy’s body. You want him to almost treat it like a football hole, and bust through and get to the rim.”

Honestly, I really don't think he should have to urge a young SG to take it hard to the rim.

Some guys are just.....soft.

I wouldn't say DeMar is soft, just passive. The added range to his jumper has been more of a curse than a blessing so far. It's enticed DeMar to settle for an outside shot instead of taking it to the rim for a higher-percentage shot.

Bullocks DK. Passive=Soft.

His range... well that it has been increased is debatable at this point, at least with any consistency.

He's soft, and he shy's from contact.

He can change though... he needs more time with his boy Magette

I knew, KNEW this would happen when he thought he would have an outside shot now.

Beat me to it.

Agreed 100%. This is the difference between true stars and avg. players.

Stars (like Wade, Lebron, Kobe, VC in his prime) REFUSE to shy away from contact. They go to the basket regardless.... all game, every game.

DD has the body to get it done. Does he have the attitude though? THAT's the million dollar question....

he's not soft, he just can't do it
you can ask all you want, if the player doesn't have the skills, it makes no difference
if he's defended by even an average guy, derozan can't beat him off the dribble. Our PGs for the most part don't put him in positions to attack. So how can he do it?

Look how many times he gets the ball middle to late in the shot clock when he's stationary 16-20 ft from the basket. There's nothing he can do from that point on.

I'm glad most people in this thread know the player Derozan is. The 27 pts he had is nothing but a preformance which occurs once in a blue moon.

Right no whe looks to be a solid bench player or a starter that has great support. I really feel sorry for Casey and the talent hat he has been given

Must've been playing in the wrong part of Compton.

I'm going to be patient with DeMar. He won't be a superstar, but I'm confident he can become a very good 2nd or 3rd option.

What Casey need to do for some player and not only Demar is have them not practice on the Defense and work on their Offense. Just like in training camp where everyone focus just defense and no offense what so ever; have Demar only practice going to the rim.
