Default The Casey System

We hear a lot about Casey's system and I was wondering, what exactly is Casey's system and have the Raptors ever implemented it effectively?

It's a show about nothing. Nothing. That's the show. Everybody is doing something, we'll do nothing. What did you do today? That's a show. Why are we watching it? Because it's on tv.

But we should definitely not be compromise our artistic integrity. This is the show, and we're not going to change it!

Play hard defence, get a stop and run the ball down the floor and look for an easy transition bucket. If the guys don't remember to run, backup plan is to let Lowry find someone for a shot for 10-15 seconds, and then shoot it or dish it to DD and Gay to shoot it. 70% of the time a miss is produced, leading to a clean-up bucket for Amir or JV.

^ pretty much lol. And all of the constant running equates to sluggish plays, and tiredness on defense. Half the time when "Casey is urging to run" the other team is already back.

Theres a reason Casey wants the team to push the ball and run in transition...Obviously it's the easiest way to score a bucket, but when you think about it, if we don't rush the floor, the opponents defense sets, and were pretty much fucked then. Casey has the worst offensive sets in the league.

Rudy Gay Iso
Derozan Iso
Kobe Anderson Iso
Bargnani waits for a screen and comes around under the basket and pulls up (this hasn't happened a lot recently)
Bargnani/Lowry/Calderon Pick and Pop
Amir/Val put backs

That is our offense

I wish we still had that awkward Bargnani ISO play.. Sometimes that led to some pretty sweet baseline drive jams.

Realistically, we're a only few good offensive sets away from having a feasible offense!

Casey was defense coach for Dallas, ok, I get it, he's not good at offense, but then why we need all these assistants siting next to him?

We need an offensive coach. Probably the reason Rudy Gay played so good when he was here the first day, was because he didn't look at Casey's awful offensive plays and just played regular basketball.

I don't think the iso's are on purpose, the problem is we are rarely a danger from 3pt line, so teams tend to pack it a little. They also crowd our ball handlers because:

a. they're not good passers
b. even if they do pass it, there is nobody to spot up in the corners

the team is still very incomplete, so it's unfair to blame casey. Especially given that our problems are no on offense, we rank very well in that department, it's the defense that's (in general) losing us games. Last night (partially) excepted.

Yep. When you regularly look to bad three-point shooters like Gay and Bargnani, out of necessity, you're missing a key element. They are very slowly showing that they can execute better. Last night, not so much, but I suspect that they tried working more into the offense during the small break in the schedule, and in those instances things tend to look uglier immediately thereafter. We'll see how things go in the next couple of matchups.

This team lacks (or pretty much lаcks) two components necessary for a successful half-court offence - low-post scoring threat and three-point shooters.

Anyone watch PTS just now? They talked about the offence and surprisingly put the majority of the blame on Lowry. Suggesting a pass first point guard would be the diff between a playoff team and where we are now. Damian Cox talked about how Lowry doesn't look for his teammates, but looks for his own shot. Also talked that one stretch of games where the Raptors were winning without Lowry and AB and how it was pleasant to watch all the assists and the ball movement with Calderon running the offence.

Of course they mentioned the possibility of Jose returning, and Cox believes Colangelo will pursue him.

Damian Cox has absolutle no clue wtf he's talking about. That moron should stick to hockey. Ever listen to that clown trying to talk any other sport, it's a joke. And his sheer arrogance makes me want to puke. They were just talking about soccer and he brought up hockey, like he can't discuss another sport without bringing that up. Douchebag.

McCowan for a guy that says he grew up watching basketball and had UNLV season tickets, makes me wonder if he's lying or wasn't paying any attention while watching the games drunk. I like the guy, but he just loves to simply be negative no matter what and often has no clue.

Anybody watching games the last month with Lowry starting saying he isn't looking for his teammates don't have a clue what they're talking about.

Casey's system can be summarized by one quote:

:bargs: “I do things that are more complicated than rebounds and defence”.
