Picture this team right now with a good starting SF that can hit three's and defend. That and a healthy Bargnani.......we'd be a playoff team. Let's face it, when you're starters consist of Amir, Gray, JJ for a good chunk of the season you're pretty much fucked offensively, especially since Derozan is still inconsistent. Anyone pointing to offense when it comes to this current roster as a measuring stick for success is looking at the wrong thing.

That's why I say he should be an assistant, we would still get his defence while improving in other aspects of the game.

The end of last season in my opinion had a higher upside than this one. Demar was set for a break out season, Bayless was looking like a full time starter, Ed Davis was beginning to come into his own, and a top 5 pick. Now that's not to say I was looking forward to this past season more than I am to next year, but if you think about it, right now we're just looking to snag a top pick, (which can be lower than last years) and Jonas. Of course there is the off season trades and signings but that's not accredited to Casey's doing. Also, you right the offence last season was the reason for bad defence, but doesn't that mean Casey might be getting to much credit for defence, because any change in our offence would have also changed our defence. Personally I doubt it and I entirely credit Casey with the change in defence but that's also something to think about.

Just saying, Tom Thibodeau was an assistant coach for the longest time and he was a very good defensive coach.

I love it when my posts get deleted.

Dudes can use some lame passive aggressive angles, ridiculous paraphrasing, or posts used way out of context to try to fling a bit a dirt and thats ok.

I call Jeff, one of my fav guys here a Monkey and it's deleted.

Honestly guys, you're in need of a reality check.... there's nothing bad happening there

Sure maybe we haven't seen enough, from Casey to say with confidence that he can be a great head coach on a very strong team. But from what we seen we have no right to say that he can't be. Im willing to give him way more time

I'm pretty sure his real name isn't bjjs, I dont have anything against him, if you read the post by carp you can see how it relates. So I gave his acronym/username a meaning, it wasn't an insult. And it was hilarious IF you read the post above mine. I don't get why you're so uptight.

I read it all, including his response to your acronym.

Regardless of you intent or whether it was funny or not, it's not appropriate for this board.

And for the record, I'm about as far from uptight as a person can be.

The one thing i really fault Casey for this season is the lack of a real suit. One that at least fits.

With all due respect LightsOut, it wasn't very funny. It was crass, and unoriginal.

The critiques of Casey, have nothing to do with expectations, or thinking he could do better or wanting better. They are just observations, opinions.

There are like 10-15 career head coaches in the NBA, guys who when they leave or get fired, are always considered for top head coaching jobs. Going back to being assistants isn't even on the radar. The rest have 2 year careers as head coaches and then become assistants again and maybe get a second chance when another HC gets fired. Maybe Casey can be one of those 10-15.

People are so fucking defensive of this guy you would think his name is Cito Gaston.

SHEEEEEEEEEEIT

Casey did a good job this season... Improved defense and mental drive with no summer practice, injuries, and a stressful schedule... Even better, with the improvements, we have a chance to get a decent draft pick...

Only time will tell to see if he is able to teach the Raptors more chemistry over summer training... Hope DD picks up some basketball IQ, Amir and Davis learn to post/shoot, Primo Pasta some closing skills, Jonas to assimilate/bulk, every Raptor to stay healthy, and for Colangelo to get lucky using our cap space...

It's the truth. Casey has come close to admitting as much by suggesting that the defense has greatly over-achieved over what he expected in one season. The poor transition defense from launching bad early shots and then getting gassed early on from so much running (which lead to terrible defense all-around), was what made this team bottom dwellers defensively, when they were probably capable of being in the low 20's if they had not used up so much energy scoring.

That same priority to score is what made people excited for breakout years and such. But there was no role development, no team play, and more gimmickry than basketball. It was all - AN ILLUSION!
