Raptors Casey: Ross has the most upside of all our guys

<----------------------ON CRACK!

Quote:
Casey called Ross one of the most talented players he has ever coached, and added, “He probably has the most upside of all our guys from a potential standpoint.”
Quote:
“The talent is there,” Casey said. “There is not a better athlete in the NBA than Terrence Ross. But just, bringing it on a consistent basis is his own personal challenge. We pushed him as a coaching staff and work with him till the cows come home, but until he makes up his mind mentally that he is going to exert that same athleticism and effort on both ends of the floor, that’s when he will make the next step. … He has been working with a shooting coach this summer, trying to get that consistent, working on his shot. His ballhandling, his defense in pick-and-roll situations, he has been working on that all summer.”

Why on crack? It's pretty typical for a young player to play well below his potential we've all seen and noted the potential. It's nice to have it confirmed by the coach. Now hopefully he can get his head on straight and make a nice jump this year.

I would agree that he has higher upside than JV, because of his size and quickness.
JV is about average for a center, his upside comes from his motor and skills. Ross has elite athletic abilities, but very limited skills and, from what Casey implies, his motor doesn't always run at full speed.

So the chances of JV reaching his potential appear to be >>>> than TR's.

Yep. I got a little hopeful in reading that stuff. In a sense Casey is putting it on himself to get him bringing it. Being so public about Ross' talent and potential can maybe help get Ross' head turned around. Last season he just looked like a kid in a candy store. Now he needs to get real, starting with a commitment to D.

It's both good to hear and worrisome. I already thought the guy was talented. But it sounds more and more like he might be a bit of a lazy shit.

A lot of that "laziness" can just be typically coming into the league too soon. He got his feet wet. If he doesn't do more with what he's got next season, then it's easier to label him as lazy.

There is one other possible reason for praising him publicly - raising his trade value. But my hunch is that wasn't the motive. I'm not sure Casey would be cagey enough for that.

Was it Casey's idea to draft Ross? Cause honestly it somewhat seems like it. He seemed really high on him during the draft... that's the only reason why I think he'd say that he's got the highest potential.

Ross has the most 'untapped' potential. Cause he has the potential to be a good defender and shooter but atm he's neither.

Exactly a point I brought up last year when people started to say he is a bust.
Let's not forgot that DD didn't earn his spot as a started, he was given the spot from day one. Even when he struggled he was still starting for us. Ross doesn't have this kind of leeway. I feel like he can be better than DD but may not be able to achieve this here due to the fact that he plays behind DD. (for now)

To call anyone a bust after one season is ridiculous. But it's the mentality these days. Quick to judge and flip on a player just as fast.

Still rooting for Ross! Last season should've been more Ross, less anderson

Pretty sure this compilation from his rookie season is already superior to Fred Jones entire career.

One is older, but the other got force fed starting opportunity

Casey just says Ross is underachieving, thats all

He also has the potential to disappoint more than anyone this season.

Terrence Ross Top 10 Plays 2012 - 2013 - YouTube

I was mostly joking, but um..he's not really at all superior.

Call me when he plays consistent minutes on a playoff team and averages double digits in scoring.
