This team should not give Ross the time it gave DD.

This team should not give DD the time some think he should still get. Ross deserves this year, DD is out of time. He better come out blazing and defending like a champ.

I mostly agree with you. I am really not sold on Ross now...

If we can fetch a nice return MU will trade him.

The numbers he posted last season could be his ceiling. There's nothing wrong with being a 16-to-18-points-a-night guy in the NBA, but shooting guards with a knack for scoring the basketball are a dime a dozen.

Despite finishing fourth among shooting guards in scoring at 18.1, DeRozan would only rank 18th in PER (Player Efficiency Rating), at 14.65, and 16th in win shares, at 5.6. His scoring average is perfectly acceptable and well above the norm, but his impact isn't being felt enough to the point at which he's being talked about as one of the premier guards in the league today.

Numbers never lie, and DeRozan's PER and win-share totals are quite telling.

Woah. Hold on now. We have to give DD 7 years to pan out. That's the standard.

Then we can trade him to the Knicks for 3 successive first rounders.

Going into his 5th season, to me that's a make or break season. After Bargnani's 4th season I gave up on him. For DD it's this season, if he doesn't improve on D and 3pt shooting or at least one of them significantly then that's it for me tbh.

The whole team is on probation this year. And the coach. Just no one is saying it publicly.

At this point, I can't say I'd shed a tear if all that was left were JV, Amir (who I'd feel sorry for) and multiple 1st rounders and expirings going into 2014.

Casey's statement is obviously not true, but there's no harm in him publicly saying this. It's either gonna boost the confidence of Ross or his trade value.

Hold on, DC isn't stupid, he knows basketball. I assume that if he says something like this about Ross it's not just a bunch of BS. Btw, Sam Mitchell said pretty much the same thing about Ross while he interviewed him back in the all-star weekend. None of the RF members here have the knowledge and experience to judge this statement. We are not there to see him in practice and what the coaches and training staff see. These two coaches know their shit, so let's see how it goes.

Yea you're right,Casey isn't an idiot and not a bad coach despite his record during his tenure with the Raps. I called his statement not true though because Toronto also has another prospect named Jonas Valanciunas who's shown a lot before and since becoming a pro in edition to being notably recognized by scouts and other personnel(whether players or management) associated with the game as a young talent who could have a long and successful career. I want to believe all the positive talk about upside and potential regarding Ross plus its still early in his career even though he's already almost 23 but I just don't see it at the moment. I'm afraid he may become another Gerald Green. Practice is important and showing flashes in it is fine and promotes optimism but fans want to see that into in game success and improvement. Ross lacked that last season, incosistent minutes may play a big part in that

I hear you. This year he has to bring it and push himself from day 1.
JV is more NBA ready I guess, different style and different skill-set. However, part of the learning curve as a rookie is stay on the court even when you suck offensively, but since we have too many wing players he was easily replaceable, but JV was needed much more therefor got more minutes.
If the coach benches him when he struggles and doesn't let him overcome his challenges, he will never pan out to be a good player.

Yea,I would like to see Ross play thru mistakes. With Anderson gone he'll have a better chance at that but I can also see Casey running a two PG back court at times which he loves(and I hate). JV had a short leash for a bit too,he got yanked for the 4th quarter a lot, even when he was playing well it seemed but to JV's credit,it made him hungrier and he got better.

I don't see where any rookie was not allowed to play through mistakes. People hated how much Casey spoke about a process, and refuse to acknowledge there was any process applied. Ross needs to prove effective to remain on the floor. That is up to him. Casey's job is to ensure that is clear, not to muddy the process and hold him accountable one day but not the next.

In my view Casey is trying to motivate Ross ... While Ross may have fantastic athleticism, he seems to lack pro skills (ball handling and shooting), confidence, and more importantly the tenacity to be great.

I hate to predict this because I would love to see him flourish into an upper tier baller, but I think he will have moments of brilliance with a slew of inconsistent poor play. I think his upside is a strong bench player after a couple of years of learning the game.

Then you look at DD ... probably just above average athleticism, lacks excellent pro skills, but works his ass off. While he also has a limited ceiling, he has been improving year over year. Please note I'm not trying to promote DD. Just making a comparison.
