Ok, obviously early but what are your thoughts on this team so far and the way Casey has them playing?

Assists per game (1st overall) 24.8

Points allowed (16th) 95.9

Points Per game (19th) 92.8

Rebounds per game (24th) 38.8

Ive only watched 3 games so far. But from those I watched, I have to say we do have improvements in our defense category. Turnovers are however kind of high still though. But I like how they're playing so far. But from what I've seen some players seem to run wild during the 4th quarter though. I dont know if that is a good or bad thing

Pretty solid improvements to start.
Should be good to see how he does over the years when we start having more then just filler guys on the bench.

For sure, the players are playing hard early for Casey. However, I do see them slipping a bit later due to fatigue and talent level.

We're 1st overall in APG???

Wow.

I'm hoping that Jonas will help the rebounding next season.

A lot better I think, plays are less scrappy this year and defence is much better at staying with their man. I really like his "no democracy" idea on the offence too. I think that was one of the things we lacked during the triano years, just too many guys wanting to finish instead of running the offence through a couple of players. Bargs has come on pretty well this year on both end of the court. Derozen, I don’t know...his outside game is not even close. Overall, I think Casey will be a very good coach.

Huge improvement over last year. It's great to see Bargs responding to the coach's challenge. Some guys (Doug Smith) said that coaches don't make much of a difference, but Casey has made a huge difference this year (but I can see that maybe Triano was a sacrificial goat last year).

If the "Points allowed" stat remains decent this year, and next year JV comes with a good SF, then the Raps future looks good.

Yeah. Just looking at rebounds grabbed fails to take into account the number that were available. FG% and pace of the game dictate how many rebounding opportunities are available. It won't be the same for every team. It's possible for a team to be in the bottom half of the league in rebounds per game while still grabbing more rebounds than their opponents almost each game.

On that note, I would also say that "points allowed" is a bad indicator of defense. Again, you have to factor in pace. Defensive rating is a much better statistic because it is based on per 100 possessions. That's a more accurate way of comparing one team against another.

Unfortunately, our defensive rating is still quite poor. However, my eyes tell me we are trying harder. Plus, minutes are going to some scrubs and guys on their last legs. The Raps are not going to make a huge statistical leap under those conditions, so I will definitely cut Casey some slack as long as the dudes are playing hard.

It's early, but they are appear to be trying, so I don't have any negative thoughts for now. I hope the "culture change" continues.

That's a LOT of improvement from a coach who only had 2 pre-season games, and has only had 5 real games so far.

The defensive stats are what impress me the most, and it's not like he's making them play Kevin O'neill, squeeze-the-air-out-of-the-ball defense. This is supposed to be a "process", and I'm liking what I see.

Realistically, we're "supposed" to be 1-4 (if that), and we've been in every game we've played in - this is with a few core pieces, and a bunch of 1 year contracts.

I really like what I've seen from Casey so far.

Improving which is what is all you wanted to see this season. Now the question is can they keep it going throughout the season? So far you've to like what you're seeing.

It is fun not giving up 110points every other game.

What I like so far is that he is busting Jose and Bargnani with huge minutes. These guy aren't going to break down from this, and for Bargnani, he NEEDS IT. The more he plays 35-40 minute games the higher his fitness level will rise. He is NOT in great shape, he can be better.

I think it's brilliant actually. Push that kid nd see what he can do with it.

Gotta love the improved defense. Turnovers are too high, and little disappointed with Ed Davis. I thought he would bring more to the table this season. He is getting the playing time and the opportunity, but he is non- factor during games. Jonas is coming and the top players in the loaded draft are power forwards. Maybe there is little competition for playing time for the front court right now, but competition is just around the corner.

I will add too that rotations make sense, even if I ask 20 times a game why doesn't he bench player X in favor of player Y
But getting key players the ball in important moments, trusting veterans and limiting minutes to those who blow assignments. So far it works out well.
Last two games he overplayed some guys to try and secure wins. No tanks shall pass
Hope he balances it out.

Impressed with the coaching, still need to work on those turnovers though, and giving up huge leads. But other then that, i'm overall impressed. With the talent we have we are doing really good so far

i'm pleased with what i saw until now.

if we were in a regular season, we will still be in the pre-season. so i will cut them some slack about turnover. especially they have tolearn a new system, and they try very hard to do what casey tells them. that a good sign, isn't it ?

i think in 10 games this team will be ready to realy work with the system on D and O.

some of our vet and Barg don't seem in shape. Barg is tired end 3rd Q every game since the beginning of the season.
carter, Magloire, even leandro don't seems in shape or in season shape.

but i really think in 10 games we will be 1/4 of the season and we will see what this team can really do.

let's go Raptors !

In terms of more advanced stuff:

Raps rank...

FG%: 4th (.470)
Opp FG%: 8th (.419)
3FG%: 5th (.413)
Opp 3FG%: 15th (.341)
ORTG: 15th (103.2)
DRTG: 21st (105.7)
OReb%: 30th (.198)
Opp OReb%: 6th (.226)

Looking pretty good - the Raps suck at rebounding offensively, but mostly make up for it by allowing very few offensive rebounds as well. Still below average DRTG, but compared to last year's 30th place rank (with a rating of 112.7), a huge improvement.

Casey's done a good job of putting the emphasis of changing the culture on the backs of the vets and more experienced players. There are still big holes in the lineup, but they have become less exaggerated. And that creates a much better situation for guys like DeMar and Ed, and Bayless. I'm excited to think those guys are going to get some idea of how to play the right way, and hopefully take a big step forward by the time the season is done.
