Casey: Our bench has to give us something

Maybe play Fields a little bit you tool!!

Quote:
TORONTO - Amir Johnson has never been one to sulk over playing time. Whether starting or coming off the bench, Johnson has always accepted his role in stride, part of what's made him the Raptors' unsung hero for the better part of the last three seasons. His body language spoke louder than words on Sunday, both before and after his team's 112-98 loss to the Nuggets, their third straight defeat at home.

An hour before tip-off a subdued Johnson sat alone in front of his locker. Playing a racing game on his phone - with the volume turned up - he knew what everyone else would find out 50 minutes later. For the first time since Mar. 23, a span of 27 games, Johnson would come off the bench with Tyler Hansbrough replacing him in the Raptors' starting five. Dwane Casey had hinted a lineup change could be on its way after practice the day prior but the Raptors' coach kept his cards close to his vest during his pre-game availability, with the Nuggets withholding the status of starter Kenneth Faried.

Following a couple slow starts in back-to-back defeats at home, the shakeup was not a surprise. "We've been talking about it, a few days back," Johnson said, despondent after the game. A man of few words.
Quote:
"Our bench has got to give us something," Casey maintained after Denver's subs scored 72 points, an opponent record against the Raptors. "Our (starters) can't play for 48 (minutes), so we've got to get production from the bench."

"The guys coming in have got to develop a toughness, a resilience of getting stops and it starts on the defensive end. That's where our problems started in the second half. They shot well but we didn't make them feel us and that's the difference."
Lewenberg: Casey makes lineup change, calls out bench

Maybe we could just keep all of the guys on defense and Rudy would go iso 1on5 on the offensive end..

Yes. The primary problem with this team is Ross.

Amir gets a lot of leeway from media and fans for some reason. He played like shit yesterday after the benching and he did the same in the past after being benched. And his energy and defense have been pretty awful this season.

+100

I like Amir, but he's been brutal imo. Reminds me of the 2011-12 season.

He get's the leeway, because the fans and media remember the kind of effort he always gave for the team. The result's weren't always good, but the effort was always there. I'm cutting him some slack, because, even before TH was given the start, his body language was saying that something was killing his enthusiasm and effort, and IMO it's a team-mate or coaching issue.

I really thought Amir could be the same kind of leader that Ben Wallace was. I don't know how significant naming captains is, but it seems Amir as a captain would have been much more ideal over Gay and DeRozan. Casey has done a terrible job at creating the right kind of identity for this team. He gets bits and pieces right, but never manages to get a good sense of the whole picture.

None of them should be captain of anything. besides naming captains is kind of stupid

to be honest, I think it's more of a Bargnani issue - by comparison to andrea, he appears as a guy that gives consistent effort. But in reality, that wasn't always the case. He had a very disappointing year I believe 2 seasons ago and that was excused because of off court issues, he pouted when he was benched the first time (can't recall which season that was) and appeared to pout again this time.

Here's the thing, for an energy guy (his main strength), he was never that energetic. He was just a one-eyed king in the land of the blind. Look at him next to Tyler, who is another low-skill, high-energy guy - suddenly amir appears sluggish and disinterested.

Have to agree. and MU should be asking him which as the veteran of the team.

Two years ago his ankle was so badly injured he could barely walk, but he still answered the bell.

Your highlighted statement is just a crock.

Bullshit. 2 seasons ago he was extremely inconsistent and it was blamed on off court "personal" issues. For some reason i'm think it was a death of someone close to him but i'm not 100% about that.

There were personal issues that season, but the ankle hobbled him almost the whole season. Check back before you call bullshit.

I call bullshit

And even if it were true, he has ankle injuries almost every season. Last season he was more hurt then the season before and he had a career year. If you can call 10/7 a career year.
