Let’s start with the zone defenses. Dallas was widely regarded as the league’s best zone team throughout the season, thanks in part to the two 7-footers in the frontcourt, but also due to Carlisle’s willingness to switch to it and assistant Dwane Casey’s ability to teach it. (Seriously, would somebody give Casey another a head-coaching gig already?)

Anyone have any idea when this might get resolved? I have a feeling that it'll be announced by next monday. Time enough prior to the draft and Casey will have been interviewed by then.

Dwane Casey, the defensive architect behind the Mavericks' championship shutdown of the Heat's Big Three, is high on the Pistons' list of head coaching candidates, league sources told CBSSports.com Monday.

The Pistons, who already have reached out to former Hawks coach Mike Woodson and received permission to interview Bucks assistant Kelvin Sampson, Celtics assistant Lawrence Frank, and Timberwolves assistant Bill Laimbeer, will reach out to Mavs general manager Donnie Nelson Tuesday with a request to interview Casey.

Casey, who has been passed over for several head coaching jobs since being fired by the Timberwolves in 2007, has strng together an impressive resume during the playoffs.

From D. Smith this morning...

Quote:
Are we close to finding out who the next coach of the Raptors is?

I think so.

Seems Dwane Casey was in town on Tuesday to be interviewed for the job – he flew up between Dallas winning the championship and today’s parade – and that would lead me to believe that Bryan Colangelo has to be getting close to making a decision on Jay Triano’s replacement.

No one will say it even off the record because things are being held more close to the vest on this decision than any other in Bryan’s tenure it seems, but It only makes sense that Casey would have been the last of the interviews since they had to wait for him to finish his season.

And that might give us an announcement in the next few days.

Now, personally, I’d be quite fine if they hired Casey.

He’s got all that attributes they want – head coaching experience, a record of success, an ability to teach defence – and from the few times I’ve talked to him – and the many times I’ve talked to people about him – he seems stern but fair.

Lawrence Frank’s okay, I guess, but there seems to be something about him. It’s second half stuff but more than a few people I’ve talked to about him since the finals begin tell me his autocratic ways and unwillingness to delegate, can rub people the wrong way.

Not that he’s a bad guy, just that he’s got some quirks.

You also know that I, for a large part, think coaching can be a tad over-rated so I’m not entirely sure any of these candidates are appreciably better than the guy they got rid of but I say Casey’s the right choice.

Thats a weird conclusion. If they interviewed Casey doesn't mean he is the last or the best in list of coaches to interview

But I want him here too. Not every good assistant makes a good head coach (Triano), but Casey got fired from HC for nothing, didn't deserve it

Why is it a weird conclusion? All he's saying is Casey is likely the last candidate they had to interview, and a decision should be made soon which strangely for Doug makes sense. He isn't saying Casey or anyone else is getting the job.

Lawrence Frank interviewed WEDS for Pistons' coaching vacancy. Mike Woodson has also been interviewed, w/Kelvin Sampson next. Link on way

This will all go down by monday imo. By then we should know who our new HC is.
