Default Casey on Davis: " itís not fair to him to go against Dwight Howard"

Casey looks like he'll give Davis a shot at the 4 with some minutes.

Here's the article:

Quote:
Casey said sophomore Ed Davis will strictly man the power forward position (likely with Andrea Bargnani starting there), while the more experienced and heavier Amir Johnson will see time at both power forward and centre.

Gray, Jamaal Magloire and Solomon Alabi are the other options in the middle.

ďWe want to make sure we see him and give him quality looks at the four position,Ē Casey said of Davis.

ďReally, itís not fair to him to go against Dwight Howard, (Brook) Lopez, some of the bigs we have to go up against.Ē

well said, we don't want a horford on our hands. but still, amir? there's something wrong there; i know he's gained weight but 250 at 6-9 6-10 is not enough to go up against the leagues centres.

Alabi is fucked here imo.

Gray/Amir will eat minutes at Center and i still say Magloire will play more than Alabi.

We have some serious length on this roster now.

Gray 7'1" 280
Alabi 7'1" 250
Bargs 7'0" 250
Magloire 6'11" 265
Davis 6'10" 235-245
Amir 6'9" 240

250 is enough. However, I doubt Amir is near 250. Ben Wallace weighs 245-250 and he looked like a beast. I think Amir is no more than 235-240.

Amir is forced to guard centres because besides Bargs, we have no one else capable of doing it for a long period of time(Gray can only really play 6 minutes at a time)

yeah, but not all centres are built like howard, there's maybe 6-7 of them who are enough of an offensive threat to worth worrying about. And between alabi, gray, Bargnani and amir, there should be enough fouls to go through 48 minutes without overusing any of our players and without having to resort to davis.

it really depends if alabi is now a rotation-level player or better, like some suggested. Personally, I highly doubt it since he was so bad last season, but who knows. He definitely has the weight to hold the post, but can he do anything else other than that ...?

All I read was that Davis is not going to get minutes. Feel like Davis is going to leave because he's going to buried in the bench.

If Davis buys into playing defense fully, and doesn't get starter's minutes, then there is something wrong. Of course I'm forgetting how Andrea is going to reveal his inner Mutumbo, but well...

still seems like a log-jam in the 4 and 5 doesn't it. Well, nice problem to have in a way, who will take their chance?

also, in some of the back to back to backs maybe we'll see different starters and even certain players not getting any minutes in a certain game and then lots in the next? People will get their chances even if their average mins per game is quite low. That's what i'm hoping.

Yeah - the schedule is going to give us a chance to see a few different approaches out of necessity.
