I'd rather Deng over Gay. Love that guy.

I've been really thinking about this Gay vs AI debate and I've always fallen to AI's side. Out of the 2 I believe Gay has the ability to truly become a star - and I believe this team needs a bona fide star presence. He's a very good defensive player (yes not on AI's level) but defense is taught and who better to teach him than DC. So if the team renounces everyone and amnesty's JC then I think we should go after him. Trade Bargs/Ross/JJ for Gay/Wroten. Gives Memphis cap space and a SF replacement and some depth in the frontcourt. For TO it would give the team a bona fide star in the making and a back-up pg. The range of Lowry/Fields/Gay would allow Ed to develop into the player he should - he seems to do better starting and pairing him with Gray or JV would be beneficial IMO.

Lowry/Wroten
DD/Fields
Gay/LK
Ed/Amir
JV/Gray

I like the look of that team, seems balanced on both ends of the court. The trade would help both teams. Of course this is a major departure for myself as I've always been a Bargs fan but there comes a time when trading him in a situation like this would make the team better. Ideally I would like Lowry/DD/Gay/Ily/JV but Ily seems bent on resigning there (lucky Bucks since they have Gooden and Henson now as well). Maybe they amnesty Gooden or trade him - a bit 1-dimensional but still a good player.

If the cost were the same, I'd take AI over Gay, and not just because of defense.

The team needs a secondary distributor.

Having someone like AI who can pass out of the high post and from the wing makes for a much more dynamic offense.

I agree Doc...I think that's a pretty good deal.....don't know what Memphis would do with Randolph,Gasol and Bargnani up front though.

That's a lot to give up for Rudy, in my opinion. And this is coming from a guy who would prefer Gay over Iggy. In order for this deal to go through, I would need some sort of contract guaranteeing that Wroten would be the next Rondo.

you can probably throw that something out into the trash
not saying i don't agree with that trade but there's no way they will give up 2 of DD, JJ and ED let alone all 3 of them

It was bad enough with just Miami in the east, but at least there was some hope we could eventually be like a top 3 team in the East. If Dwight Howard joins the Nets, it's over (I don't mind that anymore because I'm sick and tired of seeing Miami walking to the nba finals). Boston will have another year or two, Brooklyn will be good long-term with Miami. There's a lot of young teams that are only going to get better. Rather than have our current team plus a Batum or Gay and mess up our cap space, i'll take it easy. Hopefully we finish the year 9th or 10th and give Houston a bad lottery pick thats like 13th 14th. Don't give any long-term contracts to anyone this offseason. Try to clear up as much cap as possible for 2013 free agency (trade Kleiza for expiring, amnesty Amir in 2013, etc) and sign like 2 max free agents: Iggy and Harden or Evans while at the same time keeping our existing young assets who we can re-sign or use in sign and trades for other role players to fill out our roster. I think Lowry has a lot of upside and has the potential to make the all-star team as a reserve one day. We have to take advantage of his low cap hit. in 2013 he's only making 6 million or so. Bargnani is only making around 11 million for 2013. Ed Davis and Valancunas about 3 million, T Ross about 2.5.
Bargs, Lowry, Valancunas, Ross combined are only going to be making like 22 million. After 2013 and later all of them are going to be in for a big raise. We can retain all 4 of them and sign two max players while at the same time use DeRozan, James Johnson in sign and trades for assets; more so DeRozan. We can get a Batum by paying 13 14 million or a Gay this year via trade and definitely become a better team. But I'd rather be patient, have these young guys get another year under their belt contending for the eighth spot, clear space, and make a run for 2 big free agents in 2013.

I am sick of sucking. I don't want to be hoping to win the Shabazz lottery next year.

Right now the only way we can acquire them is via trade. Next year we will have a better shot. AI will be an unrestricted free agent and is free to go wherever he chooses. OKC has a lot of cap space committed to Durant, Westbrook, and Perkins. Ibaka and Harden are both restricted free agents and if a team comes and offers Harden close to the max it will be very difficult for them to match as they will face serious tax implications. Then there's Tyreke Evans who sacramento has indicated they don't want to offer the max contract to. Then there's a bunch of other UFA free agent guards we can fall back on who aren't as good. Yes it's a risk and no one might want to come here. But if we can show guys like Iggy and Harden that we have a core of Lowry, Bargs and Valancunas and just made it to the playoffs, maybe they may consider coming here. For RFAs, in most cases just want to sign the highest possible offer sheet. There's a lot more options in 2013 without having us give up much of our assets. It's a gamble worth taking. We can have a nice young core with a lot of upside going forward.

Either team could be waiting on a free agent signing to pull the trigger, and that can't happen until the 11th at the earliest.

If anything is going to happen it will probably be within the next week or so, though I suppose neither Memphis nor Philly would be in a big hurry to get a deal done.

With the roster as it stands I could see something happening, it seems a lot like an unfinished puzzle.

Well, Bargs would be depth behind those 2 or used with Marc when the Grizz need to stretch the floor - I actually think Bargs would compliment Marc as well as Bargs complimenting JV, it's just the Grizz wouldn't have to wait for anyone to development. I'm a little concerned about that though. JV will take a few years to really develop in the NBA, say 3 years and now Bargs will be in his 30's - I really hope this calf injury doesn't turn problematic as it could be disastrous for the Raps. I'm getting a sinking feeling....

Iggy doesn't either... both would be great upgrades over what we have. It's seemingly unlikely we'd get either without DD going back the other way though.
