Default The Case For Lillard at #8

Usually I would be lobbying for a big or a wing with a pick this high in the lottery. This year, I'm on board with picking a PG. Lillard looks like a really nice pick.

He's got good size and athleticism for his position.

He's a good man defender. The criticisms of his defense are based on his work off the ball. I think that Dwayne Casey will be able to straighten him out in that regard.

He takes care of the ball. He makes the safe pass, displays great poise and plays under control. That's what I look for out of a point guard on offense - someone who can make the smart play and keep the team playing the right way. He's not one of those guys who's a genius with the ball, but he can get the ball where it needs to go.

He's a fantastic shooter. His numbers really are excellent. In catch and shoot or off the dribble, in any situation he gets up a good shot. Also, he knocks down free throws at near 90%. This is his talent, what he's exceptional at, and it's what will make him effective in the NBA. Once he gets established his shooting will open up all kinds of options in the offense because teams will know they have to guard the shot all game, all the time.

I don't think he's a guy that will routinely break down the defense. In the NBA he will have a hard time finishing at the rim, so I don't think that teams will be too worried about him driving. But, he will still be effective if he picks his spots. He has the athleticism and quickness to take advantage of a lane if the defense leaves it open.

He will be 22 when the season starts, and from what I've seen he displays great maturity. Picking a senior may seem like a disadvantage, because there's less room for improvement. On the other hand he'll still be on his rookie contract through some really productive years, which makes him a more cap friendly pick.

My only concern is if he will still be available at 8. If he is, I think he's our guy.

If we keep the pick i'd be happy with one of Lillard, Waiters, Rivers. Don't think i want Lamb anymore.

He'll be very similar to Bayless except that I think he'll end up as a better passer (seems like a guy who would be willing to create for others).

Mehhh, if we were #6 we'd be saying there's too much of a drop off after #5. It's never good enough for most and everything looks better than our options to most. It is what it is! Generally speaking this fanbase like many others, is pessimistic with good reason given our history.

maybe after 5 but the rest of lottery picks are relatively close in talent. just depends on a teams need.

The shooting makes him a shoe-in, particularly from Casey's standpoint. It's just that it's unlikely that he drops to 8.

There are three things he has that makes him a cant miss prospect. Speed. Shooting. And defense. I just don't know if that makes him a starter or a great bench player problem is do u want to make that selection at 8

with the inability to sign free agents to toronto, i think we might just have to draft this PG if he's available
good PGs are valuable and are rarely traded because if a team can get 1 they're not letting go of him, and in free agency nobody wants to come to TO

i think if he's available we have to take him, our only other option to upgrade at PG is nash

I personally think there is a significant drop off after #1 pick ... after #1, it's a crap shoot across the board. It's more about picking what you like.

Anthony Davis, Thomas Robinson, Brad Beal, Michael Kidd Gilchrist should all go before Lillard.

That takes us to the 5th pick. Barnes and Drummond have been ranked higher than Lillard on all mock draft boards that I've seen, so let's suppose that Sac and Portland take those guys next.

That takes us to Golden State at 7.

GSW have Steph Curry, and I would say that Lillard is a little better on D and not quite as good a shooter as Steph, but still very similar players at the PG position. I don't think that GSW would be willing to play them both in the back court after blowing up the Monta Ellis/Steph Curry experiment. I have a hard time seeing GSW drafting Lillard at 7 without a trade being involved in the decision.

I don't think it's at all unlikely that Lillard is there at 8.

I would say that because he will probably be the pick if available, then barring any trades it's more likely that we leave the draft with Lillard than any other player.

My random guess is Portland takes Lillard with the 6th pick, GSW take Waiters, and Drummond falls to the Raps.

Then Magloire teaches Drummond to be tough, and competition with JV for the starting position teaches Drummond to give a shit every game.

Drummond falling to 8 is an interesting scenario - I wonder if we could pass him up?

I would guess that we would take a chance on him if Lillard's not available because he could play a role replacing Gray immediately.

Though, it would make the PF logjam even worse than it is now.

What the scuttlebutt on here seems to tell me is that the #8 may not be such a horrible pick.
If you had Drummond or Lillard as the guy still "left" on the board to pick at 8, that's not bad at all.

If anything, I wish there were 1 more well-scouted pick in the lottery. But considering the team wants to win sooner, we can probably forget about 4 or 5 rookies coming in next season at the same time.

wouldn't create a logjam since he's a center

Drummond's lack of an offensive game bothers me. You can find 20 defence oriented centers in the league that lack offensive skill. Wouldn't want to spend a high pick on a back up in a position we're not in dire need for.

but if he is picked. he will be traded.

I would love Lillard at #8,perfect fit but there's a 50/50 chance that he'll still be on the board then

The BaileysBlitz top 8 NBA Mock Draft (barring trades, which i believe there'll be alot of)

#1. NO- Davis, #2. CHA- Barnes, #3. WAS- Beal, #4. CLE- Kidd-Gilchrist (possibly traded)
#5. SAC- Robinson (possibly traded), #6. POR- Drummond, #7. G.S.- Waiters (possibly traded), #8. TOR- Lillard (possibly traded)
