Carter to not be honoured tomorrow

Quote:
Seems to be a lot of palaver around these parts over the so-called “honouring” of HWSNBN tomorrow afternoon.

Last I heard, and it was after midnight last night when the final e-mail exchange took place, was that the Raptors hadn’t heard back from the Magic on whether the guy’s okay with any recognition of any kind.

My guess? No way he goes for it.

And why should he? Really.

He knows he’ll get booed – despite the fact he remains the best player in franchise history and the guy who put the Raptors on the map – and what guy in the world would set himself up for that.

And, besides, this whole recognition thing or whatever is they’re calling it is bogus anyway. Fifteen years is hardly a milestone to celebrate, the ones they did for Oak and Alvin seemed more an afterthought than a ceremony and it’s hardly worth thinking about.

Carter doesn't have a problem with the Raptors anymore, everyone who Vince Carter had a problem with in the Raptors franchise is gone... its just the Raptors fan hating on Vince, I don't hate Vince, I actually like him

I think they did a trial run last night by showing the "Top 5 Dunkers" in Raps history.

As you would guess, the BOOOOOs were pretty loud for #1.

What does that really mean? I hear lots of people use it like its going out of style but what does it really mean? What? No one knew the Toronto Raptors existed before Vince Carter came to Toronto? Is it that when he came they had success and gained a little respect, is that it? If that's the case how about when he shafted them on the way out? Let's start saying that "Vince Carter is the guy who took the Raptors off the map"? Because that is more recent and based on how the other phrase is used, it could be just as accurate. If he doesn't come to this function I don't really care. I remember the good things he did but they're tainted by the ending and as the years after the Philly series showed, he can't accomplish anything without a great supporting crew. I would argue Vince Carter put himself on the map through flash without substance. This is why when he left so too did the media attention. This is why Bosh doesn't get attention. He's a better player than Carter but he's not nearly as exciting on the court. Guys like Antonio Davis, Keon Clark, JYD, Alvin William, Dell Curry, Mo Peterson and Chris Child(forget that one play and think about it) all played big time roles in the Raptors' success. I would aregue Davis was just as important as Carter in that two round playoff run.

this is stupid. Why would we honour someone right before they play against us?

Let alone someone who punk'd the organization as royally as Vince?

so stupid.

I agree with this and am not too happy about it at all based on how his tenure with us ended. I mean who's next, Alonzo Mourning?

15 years is a ridiculous amount of time to celebrate anyway. At least make it a 20 year celebration. This whole thing smells like a marketing gimmick to me

Agreed. I'd even say wait till 25 years before you make a big deal out of it.

As for 15 years, sure have your banners and stuff, but no need for ceremonies or honorariums (is that a word?) - ESPECIALLY when dude you're honouring is looking forward to beating you after the ceremony. It's just awkward.

We should honour him by putting a statue outside the ACC of him, just like the bulls did for Jordan.

Few people have hated on Vince as much as I have but, I've got to tell you, I'm tired of it.
Should the Raptors honour him? No.
Should we all continue to boo and jeer him constantly? No as well.

The way VC played the game and all the circumstances surrounding how he weaseled his way out of town has already damaged his legacy as a pro. The ESPN announcers basically said as much on the Boston/Orlando broadcast last night.

We as Raptor fans should rise above the pettiness and just ignore Vince like the NBA afterthought he's become.

lets be honust the guy made what toronto is today, he raised Bosh and left to be our leader which is now working out well and without him i believe we might have headed to the same path vancouver had. He deserves it, he got us a series and nearly got us another one against an mvp. So he deserves it, as much as i dont like him now, he deserves it period.

He raised Bosh?

Dude wanted to trade the pick that year for a veteran help. I remember rumors of Boston offering Antoine Walker for it. Imagine if that goes through? We'd have been the laughing stock for eons of years. Bosh for Walker? Really?

And then after the first year, VC asks to leave. So the idea of VC raising Bosh and teaching him to lead is erroneous.

All Vince is and was was our best player in franchise history and even that's debatable with the elevation of Chris Bosh. Vince gave us a marketable personality but really the only reason anyone in the US paid attention to us was the constant remarks of how VC needs to leave Canada and play in the states so even the recognition we got then was negative.

uh i guess uve never seen Bosh talk about his first years with vince. Bosh said himself that when he had bad nights and he would be pissed vince would tell him "its ok not every night your going to be amazing, theres gona be nights like these and you have to get over them". Also Its not cause of Bosh that vince left, Vince left because after that sweet success in the 2001-2002 season the Raptors took a step back in the 02-03 and then another step back in the 03-04 season and then after we screwed up both seasons Carter wanted success because we began the rebuilding stage with Glen Grunwald and head coach Kevin O’Neill, the Raptors rebuilt the front office by hiring new general manager Rob Babcock and also former NBA player Sam Mitchell to be the head coach. thats why Carter left he wanted a team that would win more and be a dominant team nj was that so he left its not cause of bosh. So the idea of vince raising Bosh in the 2 years together is completely legit
