he wants to be the president and handle the business side most... because that's what he's good at

Dennis Lindsey from SA would be good since he's worked in a great organization
Jeff Bower... good
isn't Ed the GM of Philly?

at least none of them are horrawful. won't be brutally disappointed with any of them

yeah, it`s a strange move. In the way I see it if MLSE will go ahead with this ridiculous move.
BC doesn`t really deserve any discounts after a few very very very mediocre years.

Raptors look at GM candidates - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

Quote:
No formal interviews have been conducted, sources said, but Colangelo has started the process of getting permission from teams to talk to candidates. It may not be until August that Colangelo starts formal interviews for the job.

Colangelo was given a new two-year contract this spring, but with a mandate to make changes and start winning. In the past year, he lost Masai Ujiri from his basketball operations for the GM job, and reshuffled those left in his front office. Ujiri left to work for the Denver Nuggets.

Colangelo would keep final say in basketball operations, and it’s unclear how much, if any, autonomy a GM would have under him. Colangelo has always been hands-on with his coaching staffs and active in trade talks and deals. Toronto has missed the playoffs for two straight years. After losing Chris Bosh(notes) to free agency in the summer of 2010, the Raptors won 22 games last season.

@WojYahooNBA has GM candidates for Raps (read: Raptors look at GM candidates - NBA - Yahoo! Sports). 76ers' Ed Stefanski is one name I've also heard connected to #Knicks.

imo this is a way for colangelo to show (some) people at MLSE how they were getting a bargain when he occupied the two positions during his previous contract.

Colangelo had to take a paycut, but now after we hire a full time GM, MLSE will probably pay even more for the two

The scapegoat argument is bullshit imo. BC hired the new coach, will hire the GM. If it doesn't workout he's gone and will be blamed for everything b/c he made the hirings. IMO this was the deal when he re-signed.

Fuck.

Why can't he stay as GM? He's slowly making this roster better and better. I'd rather keep him. I don't think he's made a bad deal in terms of the roster in a while.

Raptors

I actually think Colangelo has a model near by in the Leafs organization and Brian Burke. They have so many layers of manangement and GM level execs all over the staff. And maybe certain things would have been less likely with more staff.....like the sneaky 3 amigos thing, the Salmons coming to the Raptors, then not, Barnes coming to the Raptors, then not, Chandler coming to the Raptors, then not. More eyes, more ears, more contacts, more control.

Honestly I think BC is still going to have a lot of the final say; and to be honest, I don't really see any new GM being able to swing any deals that BC couldn't also get.

It will be nice to have someone on board that didn't get credited with at least three of the most comically bad contracts in the NBA. But really, just show me the new owners.

i think BC is gone soon:
1. he finish his contract and search for someone to take after him.
2. he wants the mlse president job, and bring a new gm to replace him as soon as he wll be name.

I like Stefanski. Reggie Evans for Jason Kapono. Clearly he and Colangelo are presidents of the "We Love Kaps" yahoo group.

My guess is, the new GM will take on GM Duties, but decisions on personnel will always be made by Colangelo and carried out by the new GM.

For example, Bryan says get me Chandler, new GM would go over to Chandler and discuss what it takes. GM goes to Bryan and Bryan says yay or nay.
