I am proposing we not only tank at this point, but scrap the entire notion of the Raptors. Its not 1993, I am not still in the haze of a "Jurassic park" Imax experience, and I for one would be embarrassed for the two words Toronto and Raptors to be put on any trophy and /or banner of weight. This should have been our throw back name 11 years ago (Or when every Jurassic Park 4 left the box office). I know Re-branding could be expensive undertaking, but in all reality I think it may do the trick in creating a new out look for this team, a morale boost.

Also under the banner of our newly minted franchise we would also clean house, Scrap the BC mentality (along with BC), fire the entire coaching staff and trade every euro player on the roster. This may seem harsh, but we are not going to win any thing till this happens anyway. So lets pull the Band aid off.

Sincerely Scully.

The NBA is full errors:

How many lakes are there in LA, is there any Jazz music in Utah. I can live with the Raptors. Players sell jerseys and get tv time. Winning teams get attention and tv exposure. Toronto was in the tv limelight with the young Vince, just like the Clippers getting some attention with Blake Griffin. Team names and logos don't amount to nothing. Just ask the Cavs, their team worth is now 15 based on the Forbes list, they were Top 5 for several years. Players make their franchises-ON AND OFF THE COURT.

I disagree fans and history make the franchise case in point the Leafs. This for me has nothing to do with sales or T.V. or team worth, it has to do with the connection a fan has the with identity of a team.

Also Michigan has lots of Lakes, and New Orleans has lots of Jazz.

Yeah but how did the Leafs establish that connection? By winning a LOT in their early days and having heroes to follow.

the only reason the raptor isn't cool is because people automatically associate it with losing. win some games, all of a sudden the raptor's in and the clover is out. well maybe not.

LOL. I love Jurrassic Park, I'm a big fan of dinosaurs.
I'm a fan of the Raptors cause of a video game named "Fox Sports Basketball 2000". That was my first contact with the NBA. And as a child I choosed the team with the coolest Logo.
First, I choosed Vancouver (93 pts/game for Shariff Abdur Rahim please. lol). This game showed the rivalry between franchises and there were one between Grizzlies and Raptors. Then I discovered VC... And since I'm here following this team since 10 years now.
I don't want them to change the name, maybe refresh the logo, make it more agressive...

Minneapolis Lakers and New Orleans Jazz are both examples of franchises that moved but couldn't afford to re-brand.

The logo isn't even what a Raptor looks like.

yes, let's get rid of all international players.... then we'll build around a nucleous of American D-League'ers and homegrown Canadian talent. Before we know it, we'll have a successful rebranding.

I actually don't mind cheering for raptors.

Unless guns stop killing people, and Raptors begin to - rendering the word "Raptors" as offensive as "Bullets" - I don't see it happening. Although I'd welcome the change.

I actually don't mind cheering for raptors.
I said Euros not internationals, and would I actually accept french players as well, they actually play defense. You may disagree but how many teams have won a championship lead by a European player.

I don't mind cheering for the Raptors either, I just think the name is a bit of a joke.

Also I would argue that the Raptors since their inception have been a D-League with in the NBA. Developing young talent and then shipping them off to contenders.

The full-sized Raptor mascot is closer to a deinonychus than a velociraptor. Velociraptors are about the height of a big turkey, have a long, stiff, erect tail, and are covered in feathers.

LOL !

in fact Raptors are a good name for a BBall franchise.
Raptors, velociraptors in fact are dinosaur with a pack mentality.
the pack is like a team. they hunt together, they live together.
so i'm fine with this name more than any other in the league.

what is a problem is the lack of pack mentality in this franchise.
if they were really angry at win, we would know and see it.

the problem is not the euro or international player, who can play like american player, but who you choose. and that is more the problem.
if you choose some scrub euro or intl that is for sure we are losing.

i think there are many good intl player in the league amoung the 90 international player who play in the league.
how many have play in toronto ?

Tipi, noah, bogut, néné, barbosa, dirk, kirilenko, etc... they were andare really a lotwho can make a team better.

choose carefully and maybe we can build with international players.
the thing is Spurs have 2 international who start or them, and they are very good.
can we have the same luck to go forward.

so don't blame crape on nae or logo or whatever, it's not the problem.

the problem is organisation and choice they make when they bring here a player euro, american or else.

and coach.

the cohesion of the roster or as raptors, of the pack is what matter, not the esthetic of the franchise.
even if some more nice shirt would be nice, i don't care if they try hard to win, and try hard every game.

there are 30 teams, so you can't win every game, but go for a group and make in this franchise as our master word : stability.
more stability with good pick or trade at the beginning and that would be way better than it is now.

hope this rebuilding process can make this. but it's just hope until they do it.

you know what, we have with DDa good exemple of an ambassador for the raptors. this guys know every american player because he play with them since he was a kid. so use him as an asset to bring some young talent or even vet talent and make a case about building a real winning franchise. he love toronto so use that.
Bring some player like jennings, like turner, like whoever you want and with who he has some friendship, and then you will have a pack mentality and an purpose of winning game and go for playoffs and maybe more.
but choose good talented player. not bring here some guys who maybe have some talent and maybe can score.

we are all agree that is the NBA, not the australian league, not the japan league, not the euroleague, this is the best league, and no matter what, what matter is winning game, and be a contender.

Like I said, the success of the team and the Star Players the team accumulates over time will make the franchise. I heard the Jerry Buss (best owner in NBA history) speech at the hall-of-fame last year, he did talk about Pat Riley, Phil Jackson, and Jerry West, but most of the speech was about the winning and success of the Lakers by drafting and acquiring certain players:

"The next step, we drafted Earvin "Magic" Johnson, surely one of the most gifted athletes in any sport at any time. His exploits and personality elevated the franchise to the heavens."

"The first day of practice, I was introduced to yet another larger-than-life player, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The greatest scorer in history. What a thought I had. Happiness, knowing he played for the Lakers."

"We had a few rough years. We missed the playoffs one year -- something unheard of in Lakerland -- and then the chapter two begins. Jerry West comes to me and says he has an eye on a 17-year-old phenomenon, Kobe Bryant."

"Well, not only that, Jerry," he was telling me, "also Shaq has said he wants to come to Los Angeles. This could be the greatest one-two punch in the history of basketball."

"But good fortune was still on my side. He listened to my plea when I said "Come back, Phil, come back!" I mixed in a little Spanish future Hall of Famer named Gasol, and voila! Another two championships."

"These men put their hands together, their souls together, and brought me with them. And I thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart."
