agreed SJ - his instincts make it entirely suitable for him to be used a C at some point. The difference between the 4 and 5 does not amount to much these days.

thanks LX.

I admit that there are clearly some very large guys that can play there effectively, but when you're talking 2".... I dunno.

Toronto just needs players to be honest..... guys that can play. Davis seems to be able to do that, he had to deal with two pretty shitty set backs, so this year is a write off, but next..... hmmm

If we're going small, he can play C at some points. But for majority of the time he should stick to being a PF. There are many big and strong C's out there that Davis can't handle.

Yeah - right now you don't want him going against too much size. Although he handled Haywood quite well. He can probably defend a lot of bigger guys better than smaller energy guys right now. He's a smart dude, and so much comes naturally to him to start with. He just needs as much experience as he can get, while not letting him completely overpowered at this point. Long term? Who knows?

You get strong by playing big guys.

davis looks like a more defensively minded amir. if amir struggles @ C davis would to. even guys like dejuan blair, a +20 lbs davis version, struggles to guard true C. even lamarcus from the trailblazers struggles @ C when he is put there. size and weight are issues but even if he over came these he would still struggle as he has never played C before.

we are better off drafting a true C or signing one for the foreseeable future.

Ummmm y'all know Davis will leave TO after his contract expires, right? I noticed when Toronto drafted him, Davis and his dad Terry were unhappy.

I like the kid, but all the hype seems a stretch. He will become a solid baller, but he isn't the second coming. A good addition to the top 8-10 players on most teams when he matures.
He has some excellent natural instincts, but the one area that is concerning is the tentency to loose the ball when he gets his hands on it. The other teams seem to be able to swat it out pretty easily from his hands ... some good coaching is needed in this area. The other area is shooting the ball ... with hard work, this will improve.
It will be nice to see if he has the work effort to continue to improve. Is he a gym rat like DD?
Does anyone know?

Hes already improved his shooting since the beginning of the year. He started off terrible from the free throw line and last few games hes been pretty good from what I can recall. This is because we have an awesome shooting coach for our bigs in Alex English. Just look at how much Amir's shooting has improved.

i see a shy, low-key guy coming right out of college and not being comfortable with the media storm that is the toronto press. what else could possibly give you that inclination at this point?

he plays hard, shows emotion, backs his boys up on D, and in general looks like he's found a spot in the team's overall chemistry. his body language and performance on the court is all that should matter at this point, and as of right now dude's beasting. it's silly to think about what's happening two, three years down the road when all signs point to shit being rosy in the now.

He can definitely play center, but it would be preferable having a similar player 3 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier on the court at the same time.

the only issue is his strength at this point guarding centres. he's long, so he can make up for that two or three inch height difference with banana arms. when his strength catches up with his length he'll be a dominant post defender.

Very few big time players don't extend at least once... it's a result of being a RFA.... Raps would match anyways.

i'll bet ed davis is a huge piece here on a highly competitive by the time he's a UFA, and that he'd be stupid to leave.

You guys make it out lke the guy is 30, he's a little kid, and I got news for ya, he ain't been a PF all his life, he's been a center.

Jack Armstrong says it best, there is only one position in the game, thats a "player". Davis seems like a player, wherever he plays he'll be just fine. His limit won't be set by his position.
I agree.

Davis should live in the weight room this off-season and make sure that he gets a nutritionist to show him how to put on "clean bulk".

If he can get up to 240lbs I don't see any reason why he couldn't play C full time.

He has the build and abililty to be a good C but a dominant defensive PF. This team will want Davis guarding the Bosh, Dirk, Duncan and Griffins of the league.
Not wasting his energy pushing brutes like Dampier and Shaq to of no avail.

When he's an old man like Kurt Thomas he can man the center position.
