i don't wear a poppy. i give a lot to charity in other ways. the support our troops stuff has turned into a rallying cry for all the wrong reasons. one can support combatants, oppose the military action, give money to veterans, criticize decision-makers and refuse to commercialize patriotism all at the same time. unfortunately this little show of commercially patriotic military support doesn't allow for nuance or dissent.

i actually buy the rubberbands, and participate in the charitable events such as the breast cancer run, terry fox run, growing of moustaches. it's not beyond me to partake in commercial purchase for rally cries for the people/research in need.
do you generally spit in the direction of the world war vets selling poppies, or just raise your nose at them as you walk by? |
