Call me crazy...

But I actually browsed all of this. It's the Raptors preseason guide. It has more info than you usually see. What strikes me is all the layers in the organization. And for those who hope to get into sports management, etc as a career, you obviously need to pay your dues to get there. But wouldn't it be the dream job to travel with and work for this organization? I'd be their shoe shine boy to get in the door!

I just can't get enough ball. The media in the Toronto area are really missing the boat here. Ball fans are HUNGRY! :sigh:

What I noticed: We've never in our history had an above .500 record on the road. That's pitiful.

B-RAD 09-27-2009 02:17 PM

that's alot of information tosoak up. how long did it take you to read that?

zachus 09-27-2009 02:20 PM

To be fair Claudius, being above .500 on the road is something only a handful of teams do every year. Portland, Houston, and Dallas were all below .500 last year and they were 4,5,6 seeds in the playoffs. Only Boston, Cleveland and Orlando did it in the East.

I wouldn't say it's pitiful, because it's not something that's expected, we just haven't exactly had an outstanding elite-level season yet.

Had to be less than an hour. Some things you know already, just looking for what the public doesn't have access to normally and being envious of those talented enough to be hired on. It obviously takes a lot to run a team.

Last year only 3 teams in the east and 4 teams in the west were above .500 on the road. The year before, pretty much same thing. Still, in 14 years of play the raps have yet to achieve above .500 on the road!?! Yeah, I would say that qualifies as pitiful.

In order for the raps to have a shot at the 4th seed (like a lot of fans are predicting), they have to be really good at home this season (10 losses or less), otherwise they really need to kick it up a notch on the road.

tvett6 09-27-2009 07:54 PM

Winning on the road requires a great inside game and lot's of physical and mental toughness. If Bargs and Bosh have career years playing inside, we can have a .500 plus road team. Reggie Evans toughness will play a huge part in the equation especially on the road because his game is better suited there. Rasho's experience will also be of big significance there.

Guys like Bellineli,Derozan, Jack and Wright will need to drive to the basket alot as well. Turk's experience and confidence will help in late game situations. This team is built to play mountains better on the road than the last couple years, version. I expect us to be a great road team this season, especially if Bosh and Calderon are predominantly healthy.

Hey ammo, When I tried to open it, after downloading the following message was displayed:

" To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select from a list of programs on your computer".

Did you get this same message, and if yes, what did you do?

Pretty sure he's referring to Claudius saying "in OUR history". Very lame.

He said WE have never had a +500 on the road, like he plays pro ball for the raps lmao. They're professional basketball players, it's pitiful that someone who probably isn't even near pro is hating on a decent NBA team.

So, you're being a douchebag why?

I said "we" because as a fan, I consider myself, in some way, shape or form as a part of that team. Is that wrong to say? Are you the fan police? In fact, you'll see that pronoun used here quite often. Alas, I forgot, you get to pick and choose.

Also, this is a forum. Sometimes I attempt to be the devil's advocate. Sometimes I point things out that can be discussed. It works most of the time. Again, I'm glad you see this as hating.

Lastly, I stand by my pitiful remark. We're a team that's celebrating 15 years, but it's been 15 years of mediocrity. I remember myself thinking that by the time we reach our 10th-11th year we'll reach a status where we're considered a true contender in the mold of San Antonio or so. That's what I thought WAY back in Year 1. The fact that we've won exactly, 1 playoff round in 15 years and are inconsistent on the road troubles me. The records of teams in the West on the road should be lower simply because of the competition they face on a more regular basis. In the East (where the competition has been lower since about the year 2000-2001) we could've had a better road record, potentially leading to a 50 win season (VC years/Bosh years). I remember once hearing JVG saying good teams win 60-65% of their home games and 50% of their road games. Maybe this is what I want.

But again, I'm criticizing the team. A team that I've cheered for since its inception. Yes, what a douchebag I am for wanting this team to actually emerge as a legitimate threat year in and year out. Oh, and the only reason I never got to play further, was because I blew our my achilles. Oh and I've built my cred amongst my peers as a guy who traditionally knows what he's talking about. But thanks for attacking me Rye!

If you're going to get worked up about every person slagging the Raptors, then with your well-being in mind, I'd suggest you never come back here again.

Claudius 09-27-2009 11:11 PM

One could argue that the Raptors don't really exist without "us". Hell, no team can exist without it's fanbase. Hence why people refer to the "we".

I don't even know why I have to justify this or why anyone does really.
