20% of funds are being donated to the military family funds. it's not celebrating war or anything of the sort, it's celebrating those who wear the uniform for their country. jersey's are a bit much, but i don't understand why you would boycott the game when it's for the people who represent our country abroad.

1. lots of people represent our country abroad.
2. i don't have blanket support for our military. i support certain actions and disapprove of others. i expect that you and will will disagree quite strenuously over this.
3. i don't think military and entertainment should have anything to do with each otehr.
4. i consdier this to be an overt political statement, and i don't think a) any sports team should engage in politics, and b) any employer should compel their staff to make or even support such a statement.

this is mlse going off the deep end for me politically. i simply do not support that.

box92 03-19-2012 04:51 PM

guess they couldnt change their logo to a tank, so they had to go with the camo jerseys instead

dfunkie1 03-19-2012 04:54 PM

1. on a larger scale, who?

2. no one would expect anyone to have a blanket support for our military, but i wouldn't understand why one wouldn't support the members.

3. i think you're missing the point of this. look how celebrated remembrance day is, is that an issue with you as well?

4. i think the jersey are a little too much, i don't see the angle.

+1. This is just like that whole "Support the troops!" banter when talking about the war in Afghanistan/Iraq.

It's a fine piece of propaganda shoved down our throats.

Oh well, it is what it is. Guess if we don't have blind support for the military, something is wrong with us.

i don't think you understand what support the troops means. it doesn't mean support the war, it means that we support the people that go there for our/their country and sacrifice their lives away from home and families for whatever motive our/their country has in that country. it's not about war, it's about our people.

MikeToronto 03-19-2012 05:10 PM

As someone who has lived in two countries to send troops into Afghanistan (with about the same degree of success, I might add), I would agree with 'trane as far as the support for the political decision is concerned. Funk, I see your point about the support for the soldiers, but the best way, IMHO, to really support our soldiers is to get them home ASAP. I've made this known to my representative in Ottawa when the occasion presented itself - that's how I, personally, support our soldiers. Wearing camo unis at a basketball game... well... I really don't see how it can be viewed as support... :confused2:

fk24 03-19-2012 05:14 PM

Lets have the opposing team dress up as the Taliban while we are at it.

dfunkie1 03-19-2012 05:15 PM

if the jersey's are a ploy to get more people to the game, it'll be a larger 20% lol

Again - donate the money to the soldiers' families, but why the unis? You seriously think they'd draw more fans to the game? :confused2:

who would think that? We'll have a good crowd anyway.

dfunkie1 03-19-2012 05:22 PM

if anything, it'll draw more military members to the game.

i think that they're just trying to do new things to get the fans interested. it's not like they thought of this when there were high expectations for the club.

'trane 03-19-2012 05:31 PM

i've made my point completely clear and see no need to keep re-hashing old arguments. what i will say, and that i haven't touched on before, is that you have no idea, funk, what i have or have not done to support military families. my point is that sports teams and city-sponsored public entertainment ventures have no business involving themselves in political messaging on uniforms or costumes. it's even worse when the mix up obligation with patriotism and military support.
