as long as the other green raptor jerseys were as big of an issue as this one, i'm cool with that.

i am not in favour of italian jerseys, irish jerseys, spanish jerseys, whatever. the raps represent the raps, and to an extent, the city. we have red, black and white. that's all we need. the rest is a cash grab. a patriotic cash grab is a non-starter for me, regardless of whether we want to play on ethnicities of new canadians, immigrant canadians, the offspring of immigrant canadians, or old school canadians.

i probably have more against a military-inspired plea for patriotic obligation, as the rest of these are simply window dressing and pandering for support, but they are all bad.

purple was fine too, i suppose. i don't much care what colour it is. the red for 'canada' was a bit much as far as i was concerned.

tbh, i'm not big on them aesthetically either. yellow and red are not a strong combo.

All opinion, but.......

1. I don't think the jerseys are that ugly, but probably would have looked better in desert style camo.

2. Let's not have as narrow view of the military that it amounts to a war in Iraq or a recent 20 years of actions. And plenty of groups and races have their day at Raptor games.

I can't say I have a problem with supporting Canadian troops per se.

Let's be blunt.

"Troops" helped to make it so that many of the players we now watch in the NBA were no longer considered chattel and cattle to be kidnappped, raped, abuse, forced into slavery or murdered. Yeah, I said it.

Troops helped to make it so that a dictator cannot arbitrarliy decide who is a superior race and who should have freaky experiments performed on them, or be gassed or shot.

And "troops" allow me or anyone else to sit in a comfortable home and say that without being dragged off to a dungeon to be tortured because someone does not agree with me.

Canadian troops helped with some of these things. Some died for it an I'd hate to think their families thought I took it for granted.

smh.

a 'troop' just finished killing 17 afghan men, women and children for no apparent reason.

look, these are all humans, filled with hopes and dreams, faults and successes. they make excellent decisions and terrible ones, positive impacts and negative ones. so to package them all together as a single entity is inappropriate, and the stuff you just posted is a perfect example of the propagandistic nature of the way the military is portrayed.

i support all kinds of individuals and criticize all kinds of others. what i try not to do is give automatic approvals to large groups comprised of vastly different individuals. and what i definitely do not to is accept an obligation to support groups just because i am told that i am patriotic for doing so and somehow a poor citizen for not doing so.

and beyond that, what i'm really not cool with, is being told i have to mix my entertainment with that obligation or i am taking things for granted. that's simply nonsensical.

"Support the troops" is a cover up for "Send them to war" and "Support Government policies"

The 2nd part does ring true though. Anyways, if anyone knows some of the stuff the US has done in the Arab world, they wouldn't even be referred to as good neighbours.

we're not the US, so i don't see much reasoning for them to be even mentioned when the ceremony and fund raising will be for canadian families.

Well then, why did we go into Afghanistan then?

Wherever the US military goes, the Canadian military will blindly follow. It's not a stretch to say this. Whether it has public support or not. And the government will do whatever they can to make sure it has public support. By shoving it down our throats in one way or another.

iraq, vietnam.

though i understand your position against waging reckless war and our culture's changing perspective of the importance of the military and how its trying to incorporate itself into the mianstream. (the COD games, canadian forces commercials, movies, etc.)
