Default Calderon's fate this season?

Just wondering what everyone thinks will happen with Calderon in the next 9 months or so?

He'll make 10.5 mil and get traded by the deadline.....preferably before the season starts.

Lets wait and see if Lowry stays healthy and Jose does well off the bench...then trade his ass before the deadline

Long term backup. Raptor for life. Sweetheart deal. Good times.

Would people here at RF want a Calderon+Davis for Wilson Chandler trade? Trading Caldy, and ofcourse a decent asset in Davis, over a good but not great SF? It's not like he's in Gay's, Iggy's or even a healthy Deng's class. Even I'm 50/50 on it.

That's way too much salary going to Denver. They would need to send about $7M back to Toronto to make the deal work.

Personally, I wouldn't make the deal as the team has Fields in the fold. Adding Chandler would just be redundant. Granted, Chandler has a bit more offensive upside, but they play similar games.

Chandler is better on both ends of the ball and doesn't make a lot more money.

Lowry/ Lucas
Derozan/ Ross
Chandler/ Fields
Bargnani/ Amir
Valanciunas/ Gray

Personaly I kinda like that depth, although I'm not thrilled with Lucas as our primary backup.

If BC tried to trade him once, and has let him know that he's a possible player to be traded this year... he'll get traded.

If he gets injured though, all bets are off.

Personally, I'd like to see him be ok with the backup role, and re-sign here as a backup after this season ends. He's gotten his money, now let him sign a longer term deal at a fraction of his last one, and have him play here (as the backup) for many more years.

Unless he makes a big fuss about being demoted, and there's no indication that he will, or an enticing deal comes BC's way, I hope they let him play out his contract. Primarily because I think he'll be stellar running the second unit.

I think chances are fairly low he gets traded, because he will be far too valuable for us, if we're still in the playoff hunt. Also, whoever goes after him, it will be a good team with few assets of the type that would interest us. Not to mention he would be a 2-3 month rental.

If we're out of the playoff hunt though, he will almost certainly be dealt.

My comment about "money" wasn't about Chandler's salary. If you read again, I was saying that the salaries don't match in the suggested deal. Denver would be taking on $12M while only giving back about $5.5M, which wouldn't work since Denver is over the cap.

Alternatives that work financially:

Jose + Ed for Chandler and Andre Miller. Probably not happening.

Ed + Demar for Chandler and Quincy Miller. Maybe?

How about DD + LKZ for W.Chandler? Also, how long is Rose injured? Would a Jose/DD for Deng deal be good? Chicago gets some youth and a young SG to pair with Rose. Chicago also gets a PG combo in Kirk/Jose. Fields/Deng would be nice and Ross gets to learn off the bench. However, I think Chicago would say no as they wouldn't have a solid SF.

I think if Lucas shows he can be a good fit in the backup role then there will be no end of exploring different trade options. I would guess that they will be looking at all the pieces and seeing who would be the best to package with Jose to bring back the best value as well as clarifying roles of each guy in the rotation and making the most sense of all the contracts and potential contracts down the line.

from calderon's words earlier in training camp about the pg "controversy" it seems like he's pretty upset at media and fans for thinking he's angry about the arrival of lowry
he said that he's been with this team for so long he thought it was pretty clear to everyone that he is a loyal guy and how much this franchise means to him
i think this time it is more clear than in previous controversies that lowry is the better PG and the team's future starting PG and i think Calderon knows that too, but i think he also understands that he is the main PG, probably the 6th man of the team and he accepts that because he knows even if he's not starting he's getting a lot of minutes and that's good enough
so i think when the rotation settles and he settles into that role, unless he it doesn't work well for the team or a good trade comes around, i think Calderon will remain here the whole season
and if he can survive a whole season here i think he's going to be a raptor for life, if he leaves the team it'll be when a good trade comes and the team parts with him, he won't be the 1 parting from the team

The dream scenario would be Jose + small filler for Smoove at the deadline (because I really don't see them resigning him at this point) and we just hope to re-sign him.

More than likely we could ship out Jose and Amir and perhaps a second rounder for someone like Paul Millsap and that would pretty much solve our whole bigs rotation problem. Plus he's gritty and generally one of the best tier two players (that is, players who are right below All-Star level).

How would that solve our big men rotation? We'd just have more of a log jam then ever. No need for Smith or Millsap.

Jose + DD for Gay gives me wet dreams.
Let Fields start at SG (the position he's played in the NBA), then let ross take the reigns in a couple years, or sooner if he shows he can.

Ed, Kleiza, Acy Jose for Millsap... that solves your logjam.
