Does it not concern anyone that Jose Calderon's assist numbers have gone way down? I mean his highest assist number in the pre-season is 6...which last year would have been considered a bad game. I've watched all but two games so far and Jose has looked pretty bad to me.
For one: He seems to be too caught up in the pick-and-roll..in the sense that he tries to do too much. He either forces a pass in (which isn't bad), or he makes a basic pass to a wing player. I, personally, blame Triano's system. The fast break is non-existent and in the half-court, it's really stand still, which doesn't give Jose many options.... Also! The worst of all! Likely rust, but I hope not! HIS SHOOTING!! Once one of the most consistent mid-range jumpers is now very flat. He's missing open 3's, open mid-range jumpers and I am scared! I am not an idiot, however - it is the pre-season and many players mail it in/don't go all-out, but it is still concerning when a player - who once average almost 9 assists, and hit almost every mid-ranger to my knowledge - is doing so poorly. Any ideas as to why? |

I don't know dude...pre-season or not when a guy goes from 9 assists to just under 4 it concerns me. But we'll see on October 28th if he's declined or not.

Wow. Like people have said, calm down. You can argue that he hasn't played as well as we hoped he would, but his apg is due to his reduced minutes, and Turkoglu getting the ball.
If I recall, Doug Smith posted that his shooting percentages were acutally pretty good, better than his season averages last year. He's a solid shooter, hopefully he gets some more open looks this year. |

If you guys have really been watching games like you claim you'll notice he is playing a lot of time on the court with another point guard, who is typically given the pg duties so Jose has been used more as a shooter. His percentages are pretty good...although I hope this experiment is preseason only as he's not an effective 2 guard. Overall though I expect they'll go down a bit because of guys like Turkoglu, Jack and Bellinelli on the team now.

Agreed with Swan. With Turkoglu on the court now, he's grabbing some of those assists away. Better to have multiple facilitators on the floor than just one.

Jose came in having not played all summer - between the hamstring and finger surgery, he just sat around. His conditioning was awful.
In the first preseason game in London, Jose went pale and pasty within minutes on the floor - he actually looked like he was sick. But he's come a long way quickly, the numbers will follow his improved conditioning. No worries for Oct 28th. |

I think you'll see him better overall, but to be honest, his numbers may go down.
I think it's morer about watching the first 20 games, and asking whether or not he is helping the team be successful. Garnett numbers went down in Boston, and so did his hand, from the weight of a big ass championship ring. ![]() |

Who cares about his numbers? I am pretty sure he doesn't - why should we?
Hedo and Jack will absolutely eat into Jose's assists total. When his shooting form comes back, I think he will score more than last year, but his assists will go down this season. |

hahaha, sorry, i tried not to but i had to laugh
why are you so concerned about how many assists he is getting in the preseason? this is preseason, he is getting less minutes and besides, nothing from the last 2 years suggests that Calderon with high assist numbers like 9-10 assists is better than a Calderon with only 7-8 assists considering your concern, why are you not concerned that Bosh is not getting 25 points and 10 rebounds a game? why are you not celebrating that all the elite scorers aren't getting their 20-30 points a game? hmm....thats because nobody in any of the teams are playing their 30-40 minutes a game!!! calm down! |
