Calderone for Bynum in the works?

i was talking with a friend last night, and supposedly he has 'connections' (he was right about some past trades), and he mentioned something about brief talks between us and LA to pull a Bynum for Calderone swap.
the talks are brief and arent very deep at the moment due to the fact that LA has bigger fish to fry at the moment (playoffs), but they are being put on the backburner for the time being.
anyway, thats how it goes down:
Calderone for Bynum... throw in a few fillers on both sides if necessary.

why this works for Toronto:
we get the C we've wanted for a loooong time in Bynum. he's young athletic and CAN GRAB BOARDS. not to mention his upside is ridiculous and if this past season was an indicition; he will be an allstar in a year or two.

why this works for LA:
look at how they've played without the bigman... they have put up a better winning percentage and have played their best ball sans bynum. in short; they realize that they dont need him to win.... they are doing it without him.
Fisher is NOT a legitimate starter not to mention he's damn old, Farmer is a back up... they dont have a Bonafide starting PG whatsoever.
Calderone is on the verge of being an allstar, his stock is at an all time high.
imagine him running the point on that LA team.. wow.

what it comes down to is this:
they need a PG badly, we need a C badly.
we've got a good enough PG in ford to handle the loss of caldy. they have a great PF/C in Gasol to handle Bynum's departure.
they get better, as do we.

They may win a title with what they have now.

which means they know they can do it without an elite PG.

why would they let Bynum go unless...UNLESS, they know he's more hurt than they are letting on, which, rumour has it, he is.

They dont need a PG at all man. Fisher is awesome and has been really good on defense and hitting shots. And Farmar is a really talented player that might be a decent starter. Gasol is not good enough on the boards and his real position where he really hurts other teams is as PF. They are not going to get rid of the best young center of the league after Howard for Calde as good as he is.

Fisher, kobe, Odom, Gasol, Bynum > Calde, bryant, Radmanovic, Odom, Gasol.

IMO I cant see that happening. Who knows though.

only way it does is if LA is not being honest about his knee, which they arent.

LA is allowed to lie and cheat, the NBA grants them that. It's why they have GASOL in the first place. If Bynum is a Raptor, it will be because LA lied, and Tronto will have another Hakeem to pay for years with no service.

they'd do this because they have Gasol to take over the PF/ Center duties...
they do this because they have no one good handling the ball.

they dont need Bynum as much as they would need a legitimate PG.

and yes you're right SJ, supposedly Bynum's knee is alot worse than what was originally expected.
the first analysis had him coming back before playoffs, but that was way wrong, his knee isnt even close to being ready.
so its understandable that they are shopping him quitely.

Love Jose, but if that means dealing him for someone like Bynum then sign me up.

whoa, i think you're stretching a bit Bel...
bynum is good, but we've only seen him play well for about 3 months... his upside is HUGE, but calling him the best C after Howard is a bit too much praise, especially only having 3 good months of ball his whole career.
Fisher is old... he's got a year left at most. he's playing well now, but he cant be relied on in the future.

we're talking about 2 young talented players.... both probable allstars in the future.
it is possible.

I said second best "young" center, obviously he is not the second best.

If this deal is in fact true, then this must also mean that Bargnani is likely done then too. No way he can continue his career here in Toronto as a SF mostly because he'd get blown out of the water by opposing players because of his lack of quickness on defense and inability to create on offense. No way he continues as a bench player either.

i hope its true...
but take it with a grain of salt... the guy talks lots of smack... although he has been bang on in the past.
his connections seem to be legit.
and he said its just talks, phone calls between GM's (and i guess that happens everyday)... nothing cement.

1. Sounds like pure fantasy to me.
2. Last summer, LA refused to part with Bynum to get Kidd. So, now they are ready to do so for Calderon? Yes, I know, Jose is yonger and yes, Gasol is in LA now to play centre and be Caldy's best friend - but this deal still strikes me as something LA is very unlikely to even consider.

I don't think it's Lakers trying to peddle damaged goods. I think it's just a baseless rumour.

His knee is kinda jacked up...

That said, the Triangle really doesn't need a PG at all...just a good shooter (which Jose would fit)...weird swap though.

And Calderon wouldn't get much of a raise in a S&T either.

Far as I know, the Lakers aren't being 100% honest with what he actually had done. Remember how the Suns said Amare was just having a clean up and then he had a meniscus operation? lol

Not too bad. They only won, one less game than the Raptors.
