Default Calderon too predictable in late game situations?

Just an observation I've noticed with Calderon ... in 2 year's time of watching him, he seems to shrivel up in the 4th quarter, dribble around the perimeter for god knows how long and dumps it into Bosh.

I've noticed he stops being creative and making plays for other people via transition or PnR ... just look at yesterday's OT & 4th quarter vs. the 2nd and third quarter vs. Memphis.

The main point of emphasis for me here is that, even though Calderon has been KNOWN to do this, it really seems to surface during the 4th quarter --> He becomes LESS AGGRESSIVE, and I feel it's more mental than anything else.

Anyone else notice this?

He's predictable for the most part late game or not.

He got worse as he tired late in the game. He needed to come out by the time OT arrived, probably a little sooner. He's just not built for big minutes.

Some call it predictable and some call very good game management. We had the lead so Jose worked the clock late in the game. Hedo really hurt us last night. When Wright got hurt the game changed and when Wright returned and Jay took out Weems and kept Hedo in it was game over. Hedo struggled last night...and he was dealing with issues back home. Everyone would have understood if Jay kept Hedo on the bench the entire 4th and o/t period.

If Calderon played like last night most nights we'd win more games. He was actually aggressive even if he was yet again our worst defender. His defence is non existant to say the least. But yes he's predictable, except when he's being more aggressive and pushing the ball alittle more like he did last night. Unfortunately, he doesn't do that nearly enough. Therefore his play often gets overshadowed by his putred D.

Yea I said this in the post gaem thread as well. I thought Triano was gonna put Jack in during halfway thru the 4th to rest Jose a while and get him back in after. Surprised to see that didn't happen

Jose was out standing last night on d. By far his best defencive game of the year. He rebounded and played very solid d. I just shook my head though on the team stragety to swith off immediately on the perimeter. Jose was bumping into the support guy on the planned switch. Jose was able to stay with his man last night . I was really surprised how much burn Jose got last nite. Jack has nevered got that many consecutive minutes all year. Jose up to the task and played very well. There was no drop off in his play last nite, however the thought of him getting hurt crossed my mind because of the consecutive minutes without a breather. I would liked to seen Jack in the game to give Jose a breather. Oh well its in the past now. We are playing again on Friday and i am sure that jack will get his minutes in that game.

Jeff common man you are better then that....please don't stir the pot, its my job. As an older poster and I know that you are up there in age. I am sure that you wear glasses, please review the game last nite but wear your glasses this time. I would also recommend that you increase the volume on your TV so you can hear how well Jose was on d. You very seldom get to see it but last nite maybe it was a fluke Jose was very good on d.

It was only one game but he was good.

Sorry but Jack = Jose on d every nite.

Jose is our worst defender and it's not even close.

Even last night, he wasn't good defensively. He did a decent job on the boards i'll give him that, but he was blown by more often then an asian hockey player.

calderon was good on d last night, when someone did blow by him, it usually wasn't his fault, there was no help d what so ever. Also at the end of the game, there was no way Calderon could have stopped Gay, never should have switched. But one thing i want to mention is that nights where Calderon is good, Turk will disappear. They will never have a good game together. Im starting to feel some tension between Calderon and Turk......

You right on tom...hedo is really having a shitty year. The funny part about this also is that Jose is a better passer and shooter and ball handler then hedo. So why put the ball in hedos hands. All Hedo has on Jose is size. Weems should have closed out the game last night with Wright.

Was Jack injured? Why were Jose and Turkoglu on the floor to end the game? This is a question for Triano, and one he should be asking himself. As has been noted in the past, the prolific Raptor offence becomes useless pretty quickly with both Calderon and Turkoglu on the floor at the same time. They do not compliment each other at all at either end of the floor. How to lose a 2 possession lead in the last minute 101.

Would have been nice to see Jose step up and at least make the ref decide on a charge/block call on Randolph's drive to tie it up at the end of the 4th. Instead he pulled the matador.

Jose was having a good game offensively. But not putting Jack in late in the 4th + OT was a huge mistake. Triano usually goes with the PG who's playing better in the 4th, which is usually Jack but once Overtime is needed give Jose 2 minutes of rest and let him finish the OT.

As far as the matador comment.....+1

If it wasn't for jose last night... it would have been a blowout for memphis,,,
his defense was really good,,, he got burnt when he matched up against rudy ,,, but what do you expect him to do,, Gay is a couple of inches taller than him,,, also, the raps were preoccupied with Gay and Mayo on the wing, which made Conley have an open path most of the time...Jose did his best to defend him but it is really hard when the help defense is late.
stop criticizing Jose everytime this team loses.. I m so glad we kept him .. him and Jack make our backcourt so hard to deal with on most nights.
