Calderon talks about the future

Quote:
“If the team decides to make a trade because they think they’ll improve . . . I’ll accept it,” Calderon told the website earlier this week. “That’s what we have in the NBA. I’ll go to another team and play and give them 100 per cent, and nothing else.”

But the 28-year-old, who has spent his entire five-year NBA career with the Raptors, reiterated his desire to stay.

“I’ve very happy in Toronto, I’ve played five years there and it’s the only team I’ve played for in the NBA. I’m really happy; I have my house there and a lot of friends.”
Quote:
The fact his name was being kicked around even before the botched Charlotte transaction came as little surprise.

“It’s something normal,” Calderon said. “It’s something that every NBA player goes through at some point, so you never know.”

There is no question that Calderon’s name is still being kicked around in trade conversations Colangelo is having with his fellow general managers.

The Toronto GM is at the Las Vegas Summer League along with a handful of his contemporaries and discussions are bound to be going on.

However, the leap from talk to action is often a long one, as Raptors fans — and the league — learned first hand in the Charlotte fiasco this week.

I mean if he actually could play defense it wouldn't be that bad if he stayed, but he is just flat out horrendous.

Jose is awesome... just wish his defense was on par with his paycheck. That's not his fault tho....

If our center stopped taking 3s and we actually got back in defense without them having a fast breaks jose could at least be decent.

Geez, Jose, why do you have to be such a good guy? It makes it so hard to hate you.

Haha thanks for the reminding me... I hate to see Chris Bosh go and become one of the troika amEGOS.

Nooo, I don't want Calderon to be traded. *cross fingers* I want him to retire as a Raptor!!!!

Bargs was playing in the system that the team wanted him to play.
By playing outside it gave Bosh room to inflate his numbers.

Bargs is now the best player by far on the team live with it.

If our help defense ever improves around the rim and if Calderon manages to stay healthy through the season (both huge ifs), he could be salvageable, IMO. Somehow, on a pretty good Spanish national team (good both offensively and defensively), Calderon has been a starting PG for many years.

Jose is one of my favorite player and If he could return to being a PG giving 8+ APG, Low Turnovers, 14 PPG with penetration and a high freethrow percentage. I really could care less about defense.

But don't think he can anymore.
Plus we has 25 million now at PG if you include Barbosa.
A point guard or 2 must go so at least one or 2 of Banks, JJ or Jose must go.
Its hard because both Jose and JJ are great guys solid team mates and popular.
Plus they can't get the required minutes together and we know Jose at PG and JJ at SG was terrible.

I have faith in him.

It's gonna suck if he gets traded to a team with average to above average defense and he starts killing it.

He had some great chemistry with that 2nd unit this year.

If we can just find a defensive anchor of a 5 and another gritty wing guy I think this guy can be effective in Toronto next year.

Plus he's just a great guy. Great for the locker room and the team morale. He loves it here...I'm willing to bet this guy will work his tail off to come back better than last year if he's not traded.

Interesting.

In so many threads, I find myself defending my Calderon love.

But today, you seem to all be with me.

This.... is good. I think.

i like jose but he just hasn't shown any real improvement from year to year. If Bargs was still a 3 point shooter(kapono) from his rookie year then i think he would have been moved a long time ago. It's the fact that Bargs is improving on each aspect of his game each year.. Attacking the rim, offensive awareness, toughness, man to man defence. And i'm sure next season, his rebounding, help defence and post game gets improved.

I would agree with this assessment, but still think that at his best, Jose is a darn good point guard. The problem is that, for various reasons, we haven't seen his best for quite a while now...

I love Jose but at this point I wanna look towards the teams future and the only way to do that is to trade his massive contract away. Sadly

I think Jose has his strengths - shooting, PnR, tossing perfect alley's, controlling game speed and not turning the ball over. I just don't think he is capable of being a formidable fast break PG in the association, he plays at too slow and methodical a pace. With Weems/Dero/Barbosa/Amir/Bargs being plus quickness guys for their positions Jose will lower the FB opportunities for the Raps. We all know he can't defend, and frankly he is incredibly overpaid. But still his skills would be perfect for like...The Hawks? - BC trigger Marvin Williams.

Now that we got Hedo traded and Bosh gone Im all for letting Jose stay. We already got rid of lots of salary and we dont really need the cap space right now as we should start building from the younger guys anyway. Joses value aint great right now, but it might get better next season if he plays well with the athletic young group we have, which is bound to be better defensively than last years team. Also I'd like to see how he fares when he doesnt have Bosh who needed his touches. Jose has always played best with second unit (before he got the deal and last season when Jack was starting). Maybe now that we have a starting unit that doesnt have stars that need touches he can be effective with them.

Also neither Jack nor Barbosa is really a pure PG that could great for the young guys and run a systematic offense with them. I feel Jose could help them play better offense and his presence in locker room would probably be good influence too. And it would be nice to have a team full of guys that actually want to play for Raptors.
