Default Calderon: Raptors 'are so close' to being good

Quote:
Raptors point guard Jose Calderon has acknowledged the team's struggles, but believes that the club is very close to being good.

"The 'if' is not working in this sport," said Calderon after Friday's loss to the Pistons. "It's not just one thing, it was too many little things, like (Friday night).

"We're so close. We are a good team, we fight. But when you are in this situation, it happens. Maybe when you win one, you go on a roll, but to change the dynamic is the difficult thing."

Toronto has lost seven straight contests, dropping them to 23-43 on the season.

I think this team can make a big jump next year. Needs couple of changes and the draft pick, they can be a top six team in the east.

Jose played really good last game and if he can continue that tie in args awesome play of late and Bosh playing good, we can be a good team but we just need a good wing to make it all work out

close to being good? is that the ego-effect after becoming the all-time assists leader title?

isn't thos the same Jose who said after the 3rd game of the season (vs. Milwakkee) that this years team is different (a lot better) than last years.

What else would he say. Take with handful of salt.

he's right, the problem is that the same thing applies to 29 other teams. Every team can look around and say, if we had just one more good player, we'd be a great team ...

You can't really look at this last stretch and judge. When things are not going your way it seems like what ever you do, you will still lose. I think that is what this team is going through right now. I really believe Jose when he says that, because training camp with a new coach, a draft pick and couple of solid signings and this team can be back up again.

We all thought that our team was going to be better this year. Unfortunately, for various reasons it just never worked. No need to throw anyone under the bus. We just have to regroup during the off season. Don't get to high or too low on transactions that will be taking place because looking good on paper means squat. Just like the Doc said make me a believer so we will have to see how our team performs next year.

I'm a have to disagree.

Calderon has had a shitty year no doubt, but the man is still a fantastic point guard. WHEN HEALTHY, he certainly has the potential to be mentioned among the league's best. people may now disagree with that, but we were all saying it last year.

This year has been a write off for the whole team really...
I'd like to see what a new coach and "actual direction" injected into the Raptors would do for us next year. I suspect it would do a lot of good.

This is pretty much the same team that won 47 games, the only difference being a much deeper bench to draw on. Internal growth next year (Andrea, Bosh, Calderon), a top 10 draft pick, a possible S&T with Marion (swap him for Josh Howard?), next year we can look to make a huge jump.

We will also have the MLE to spend, and it will be a buyers market with some free agents off the top of my head like Artest, Iverson, Ben Gordon we can spend the full MLE on them and with the shrinking salary cap expect I think we have a chance at a very good player for MLE money.

Not to mention, Delfino is coming back

So our possible 2009/2010 lineup could be

Calderon/Ukic/Banks
Gordon/Delfino
Howard/Graham/Delfino
Bosh/Hump/Pops
Bargs/Hump/O'bryant

And throw in a top 10 pick at whatever position you choose.

Something would need to be done about Hump being the first big off the bench though...

I think if we improve the bench. Ukic improves his shot and we get a SG through a Trade/FA/MLE and draft properly we'll be a playoff team next season. That plus get the right coach.

Somehow getting rid of Krapono and/or Banks is extremely important.
